Franco shook his head. “Now that we’re all on the same page, I’ll walk Kennedy to my bedroom.” He threaded our fingers.

“Bonnie, tell everyone to get ready for war. I’ll meet you in the garage in fifteen minutes,” he said.

“Will do.”

Franco tugged my hand toward the archway. I peeked at Bonnie. She winked.

It was surreal belonging to Franco. He pushed the double doors open to his master bedroom on the first floor.

Vigo and Remo will stay with you. They’ll patrol the inside of the house. There are three other guards patrolling the premises.

My smile rose and fell as I sank onto the king-sized bed.

He kneeled before me. “What’s wrong?”

“You’re going to war with your enemy. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

He slipped a lock of hair behind my ear. “I’ll do all I can to come back to you.”

Franco held my gaze. “I understand this is a big step for you. Returning to a life of crime. This time it’s for love.”

“Franco,” I purred, kissing his lips.

He took my lips with passion and need. “Hey, I can’t wait to show you how right we are together.”

My heart fluttered in my chest. Somehow, I knew he was right.

“Franco, come back to me, please.”

“I’ll do my best, sweetheart.” He dropped a kiss on my nose before disappearing into the bathroom to take a shower.

I clutched his pillow and inhaled his scent. This man had protected me. I knew he’d do all he could to come back to me. He had to. We had a life to build together.

***P***

Two days later, I paced the marble floor in the living room. Gripping my phone, I exhaled. Quinn said he’d call in twenty minutes. That was nineteen minutes ago.

Franco hadn’t returned home. I hated not speaking to him. I longed to be in his arms. It was like ever since he opened up to me, I fell head over heels in love with him. Learning he planned to marry me and put a baby inside my womb sent butterflies fluttering in my belly. I found it sexy. A smile rose on my lips.

My phone vibrated in my hand. I inhaled, then exhaled before bringing the phone to my ear.

“Quinn!”

“Kennedy, are you ok?” He rushed out.

“Yes. I’ve been worried sick. Duke and his men used the restaurant as target practice.”

“Shit! That fucking asshole,” he growled.

“Franco took you?”

“Yes.” I squeezed my eyes shut.

“Did he hurt you?”

“No, he kept me safe.”

He released a breath. “Thank God.”
