I nodded as I pulled her toward the desk. “Have a seat.”

This wasn’t the time to discuss my dead parents. Maybe another time.

She sank into the large leather chair. Before I flipped on the monitor, I peered at our reflection. Then my eyes took in her stunning side profile. That was the moment I realized; I couldn’t let her go. Was I any better than Duke for wanting her all to myself? This wasn’t how my day was supposed to go.

“You’re beautiful,” I muttered.

Her gaze met mine. Those whiskey-colored eyes took a chisel and banged at the ice encasing my heart.

“Thank you. You are too.”

“Kennedy,” I growled.

She burst into laughter. “Accept the compliment. You just so happen to be a man who’s beautiful and lethal.

“Don’t tell anyone,” she whispered. “That combination is a turn on. You know if I was having sex and didn’t only date nerds now.”

I flashed a devilish grin. “Fine, I’ll accept the compliment. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” she beamed.

My fingers skated across the keys. “Lately, I’ve worked on a new computer program for my foundation.”

Her gaze snapped to mine, and she blinked twice. “You created a computer program for your foundation?”

“Yes.”

“Wait! Are you saying you like nerdy stuff?”

“I’m telling you, I enjoy building computer programs for fun. I’ve sold several to large corporations. One of the most successful programs I created was sold to one of the largest companies in the world. The media described the deal between me and the giant corporation as confidential. The company understood my identity was to remain a secret. Not that they knew Franco DeLuca was the programmer behind the company they made a deal with. The corporation understood keeping my private company’s identity hidden was the only way I’d move forward with the deal. I’m a nerd. I just so happen to be a mafia Capo who runs his family’s business and kills those who cross us.”

Kennedy didn’t flinch or react at all. “Does it bother you that I’m a smart mafia boss?”

“No. Shocked, that’s all. You’re selling yourself short. You are brilliant.”

Her vibrant eyes danced over the screen, taking in the elaborate program I created. She clicked a few buttons. “Hey, I’ve used this program before.”

“I know. Most college students have.”

“Franco, why are you single again?”

“Personal reasons.”

“That’s all I get, and I told you all about me and Duke?”

I perched on the end of the desk, hating to move away from her, but if I didn’t, I’d have her bent over the desk and screaming my name. “I’m not big on intimacy. Every time I have sex with a woman, it’s from behind. That creates a barrier between us. Most women don’t care that I have intimacy issues. Several said they could live with my issues as long as we were a couple.

But there’s also my mafia lifestyle that poses a problem. I trust very few people.”

Her mouth dropped open. “So you live in this mansion alone. And you plan to do so forever?”

“You make it sound so horrendous.”

She lifted a finger in the air. “You only fuck from behind. Nothing else?”

“Are you asking if I eat pussy?”

Kennedy crossed her legs under the desk. She was turned on. Was she drunk? I should get her to her room.
