“How did it go?” I asked.

“As you said, it would. He wants to see your dead body in person.”

I chuckled. “Good. Did you record the conversation?”

“Yup.”

“Quinn, join me in the shower.” I heard a woman in the background.

“Micaela, I’m coming.”

“How does it feel to have complete control over your life?”

He blew out a breath. “Good, I can finally settle down with Micaela. I was tired of pretending to date tons of women. But I had to do that to keep her safe. I couldn’t allow my father to use her as a pawn to control me.”

“I’m happy for you, Quinn.”

“Thanks, Franco.”

“When this is over you two have to join Kennedy and I for dinner.”

“Micaela would love that. Talk to you soon, Franco.”

I disconnected the call.

Kennedy was asleep, the medication the doctor prescribed made her drowsy. We hadn’t consummated our marriage yet. In time we would. Her health was most important. She’d need all her strength to carry Franco Jr. A smile curled my lips.

“Franco,” Kennedy called.

“Yes, sweetheart.” I shot to my feet, flipped off the computer, then darted to the door where she stood.

Staring down at her, I hooked an arm around her waist, holding her close. “You have to stay in bed.”

Kennedy scowled. “I don’t have to do anything.”

“All right, Spitfire. Have it your way.” I scooped her up into my arms, stalking through the house.

“Put me down, Franco.”

“No.”

“Don’t turn me into an invalid.”

“Kennedy, I need you healthy and strong.”

Her arms curled around my neck. “I wanted to see you. And-”

“And what?” I growled.

“Find out if you talked to Quinn.”

“I did.”

Her eyes widened. “Keep going.”

“He said Duke wants proof.”

A smile brightened her face. “More killing is in order.”
