Chapter Four

Junior

When I woke up this morning, she was already gone. If it wasn’t for the scent of her perfume lingering on my sheets. When I roll over onto the pillow she used, I roll onto a piece of paper. Reaching over to the bedside lamp, I turn it on.

Hector,

I had to go to work. Call me later.

Just in case my sexy stalker doesn’t have it, my number is 908-989-1869.

XOXO

Your Princess

Grinning, I get out of bed to begin my day. After a hot shower, I call my girl. She answers on the second ring.

“Hello?”

“Hey Princess. How’s work?”

“It’s God awful. I have to go to court today to take notes. Court is the worst part of my job.”

“Isn’t that a big part of the job?” I ask. I don’t know much about paralegals, but I do know that much.

“Yes, but I hate it. I only took the job for some freedom. I’ll call you later.”

“Sounds good. Till then,” I say, hanging up.

I go about my day, heading into my office. On my desk is a pile of paperwork that I need to get through. Most people think that the mafia is nothing but killing and breaking kneecaps, and while that is partly true, there are several businesses that I am in charge of. First in the pile, is signing the payroll checks for Little Havana, our restaurant in downtown Manhattan. Eco deals with figuring the shit out and I just sign the damn things. We use it as a front to launder money, but we are also proud of it. We employ the best Cuban chef, Tomas, in the world. Our reviews are through the roof as are our reservations. We are booked for months out, but this is just one of many things we have our hands in. We have a couple of strip clubs in Newark and Jersey City. We also have three night clubs scattered throughout New Jersey. We deal in shipping and light transfer loads as well. We also have a small gambling and loan side business going. I'm dealing with doling out punishments on defaulted loans when my phone rings again. It's midafternoon. I see that it's Carmen.

"Princess, I wasn't expecting your call so soon," I say.

"My father found out about us," she says without greeting.

"So what? It was going to happen anyway."

"He doesn't want me to be happy, Hector. When he thought this would be against my will, he was fine with it. But now that I am happy, that I stayed out with you all night willingly, he's refusing to let me leave the house again. He sent his men to my job and they drug me out."

"They touched you. Touched what is mine?" I demand.

"Yes. He's lost his damn mind. Please help me, Hector."

"I'd like to see him try to keep me from you, Carmen. You are fucking mine. I thought I made that perfectly clear last night. I'll be there soon."

"Wait. His inner circle will never let that happen. I went them dead. I want my piece of shit father dead. Say you'll help me," she says softly.

"I'll help you, baby. Don't worry. I'll bring my brother and we'll be there soon."

"I'll email you everything I've got on my dad and the inner circle. There are five of them."

"Alright, baby. Stay safe."

"I will," she says hanging up.

It's taking everything in me to not storm her house and bring her to safety, but only a fool would go in there without backup. A dead fool. I try calling Benny, but he doesn't answer. I grab my guns, holster them and get in my truck. I don't find him in his rooms at the main house, so I pace the foyer waiting for him. Finally, the front door opens, and he enters with a woman.

"Hey, hermano. What’s up?” he asks causing me to stop pacing.
