I watched his expression as he left and could tell he was furious. He wasn’t darkly scowling, per se, but everyone who saw him immediately got out of his path.

He looked so majestic, and once again, I couldn’t believe that I had been with him. It seemed almost impossible to comprehend.

“What are you doing here?” I heard the sudden call behind me, and my heart nearly left my chest.

I turned around then to see that it was Sandra holding a cup of tea and smiling mischievously at me.

“You scared me,” I complained, and she shrugged.

“I stopped by the office today. How come you weren’t there? You usually come in early. So early we’ve barely spent any time together. How about we go out for drinks later on and just talk?”

I looked at her and recalled the wrong information she had given me about Guy the previous day, causing me to lose my job.

“Maybe later,” I said, not really in the mood to converse with her.

Afterward, and knowing I couldn’t delay any further, I hurried over to the office.

It would have been good for him to meet me seated, but I couldn’t face him. Not yet. Not while he still had so many people with him. Afterward, then yes, I would approach.

I watched as they disappeared, and then I followed. When I arrived at the office, however, I found that he wasn’t in his own yet. Instead, they were by my desk and conversing.

“George, you know what to do, right?”

“Investigate his other projects and see if this is a habit of his or if there’s anything else to pop up that we can use in defense?”

“Yes,” he nodded, and George turned and was on his way. He saw me by the door, then, because there was no way I could hide. He returned a smile, and I had no choice then but to head in. Both men gave me a glance as I walked in with my head slightly lowered. I headed over to my desk, I settled in quietly as they discussed, and soon it came to an end. Guy headed into his office and shut the door behind him, while his client Gary turned his attention to me.

“You are gorgeous,” he said. “You’re new, right? I don’t think I've ever seen you here before.”

“I am new,” I replied, trying to focus on my laptop screen. At any point now, he was going to call for me, and I wanted to be ready. Or maybe he wouldn’t?

I couldn’t help but be nervous.

I barely even noticed the client still standing there when he spoke again, and at the candor in his tone, I was forced to pay attention.

“You are incredibly rude. Do you know this?”

My eyes widened as I wondered why he was suddenly upset.

"I'm going to let this go for now because you are Templeton's staff, but the next time you come here, if you are still here, show some respect. I don't know where and from whom you learned how to be a secretary, but you don't just respond to someone and then ignore them. Much less a client."

I finally understood then what I had done wrong, and instead, I rose to my feet apologetically.

"I'm sorry," I replied. "I wasn't trying to ignore you. I was just immensely distracted by other matters. I'm really sorry."

He gave me a dark glare, and then he turned around and left the office. I plopped down into my seat.

What a day, and it had barely even started. But then again, why the fuck had that asshole been mad at me? I thought about it and realized that perhaps the settlement meeting had gone badly. No wonder Guy had a scowl on his face too. I sighed, my shoulders collapsing because it was all in all a very bad day to speak to him. But I had to. I had already come in late, so I couldn't just clock in like nothing had happened. It would look bad in every way. That I was taking this job as a joke or that because we had been intimate last night that gave me free rein to be tardy.

I couldn't stand it, so I got up and found the courage to knock on his door.

There was nothing to fear, I told myself because there was nothing to lose. Even though I didn't get a response from within, I pushed the door open and headed in.

Chapter Thirty-Two

Guy

Ihad to admit that upon seeing her, I felt immensely relieved. But then, when I realized that she had probably come in late to hand in her resignation or something, I realized that we were back to square one.
