It’s also shocking that neither of Aragon’s parents looks a day over thirty—thanks to the genetics of immortality. While Lily’s mother questions Phoenix’s skincare routine, Lily and I exchange knowing looks.

While dinner goes on, I listen intently to the conversations flitting around the table. As far as the Turner family is concerned, they believe their daughter and Draco had adopted baby Tyson. The Vulkans live in Australia, and Lily has relocated.

It makes sense that they need the alibi to explain how they have a child when they’ve only been together for nine months. According to Aragon, dragonspirit children are born within three months, which may induce mothers' immortality.

Instinctively, I look down at my belly and wonder if that might happen to me. It’s not fear I feel, especially when I look up and see how happy Lily is. Despite having a family in the real world, she’d chosen to be with Draco and say goodbye to her life out here.

Unlike me, who doesn’t have a family that will come looking for me. Apart from James, I don’t have to answer anyone about my whereabouts. I could easily choose to remain on Aurora Island for the rest of my life.

But is that something Aragon would want? The thought sends a shiver down my spine.

When Aragon clears his throat beside me, I’m sprung out of my thoughts.

“You’re miles away, Yazmine,” he chuckles under his breath as he leans in to whisper his observation. “Would you like to head back upstairs?”

He leans back, the mischievous glint in his eyes indicating why he’d offered to go upstairs. Tucking my bottom lip between my teeth, I nod sheepishly in agreement. I'll take this if this is Aragon’s ploy to ensure I get pregnant.

It’s not like he can offer more. Not that I’m expecting it.

Aragon turns to Draco, rising from his seat and taking my hand with him swiftly. He leans down to whisper in his brother’s ear, when Lily chimes in.

“You’re leaving already?” She throws me a wary look of disappointment.

“Yeah…” Aragon concedes with a nod as he helps me get to my feet.

Lily and Draco glance at one another before she smirks knowingly. “Fine. But I need my bride’s maid early tomorrow morning.”

She throws me a wink that has me blushing profusely. Despite not planning to journey to Seattle, I’m now a bride’s maid. I suddenly feel giddy and excited as I follow Aragon to our room.

If I am meant to only stick around to give him children, I might as well make the most of my time with the dragon shifters.

Chapter 23 - Aragon

“I don’t want you to leave…” I blurt out the words of sadness hanging on the tip of my tongue all morning.

From where she brushes her long, silky dark locks at the dresser, Yazmine turns slowly and frowns. “What do you mean?” she asks with confusion.

Even I’m surprised by the proclamation, having spent countless restless nights staying as far away from the human as possible. But being back in Seattle has revealed one startling fact.

Yazmine has become the distraction I needed to forget all about Delilah. No longer prisoner to those memories; it’s Yazmine who freed me from the shackles of that heartbreak.

She doesn’t even know it yet.

“I er—” I clear my throat as I sit upright in bed. “I need your help getting dressed.” The absurdity of my excuse is unsettling, so I climb out of bed and head to the wardrobe. It’s not like I can admit I’ll miss her presence when she leaves. I fear being without her by my side as we prepare for the wedding.

It was almost unbearable when she left yesterday to help my mother with wedding preparations. Though I thought I’d end up mulling over my ex while picking up our suits in the city, I ended up simply missing Yazmine.

Gods… What has gotten into me?

“You need my help?” Yazmine chuckles disbelievingly as she goes back to brushing her hair. “You need my help fixing your tie, or something?”

A frown flits past my face. “Yeah,” I say while taking out clothing for the day. “I do actually need help with that.”

At this point, I’m grappling at straws, searching for any excuse to get her to stay.

“I have to help your mother and Kairo,” she explains. “And Lily needs my help dressing at the venue.”

“Doesn’t she have a sister?” I retort sarcastically.
