“Don’t they get tired?”

He chuckles. “Of course they do. But they look forward to Ostara all year, it’s the one time they can make it to the Umbra Court without harm.”

“What about their journey back? Isn’t Ostara technically over in the morning?”

“Yes, but they’ll leave before the trees regain their power midday.”

Hours pass, wine flows, and we continue to dance together

“This is nice, Golden,” I say with a giggle.

“Golden, eh?” His perfect white smile gleams at me, his eyes crinkling slightly in the corners. He seems genuinely amused, and that makes me buzzy. He places my arms around his neck, and his own around my waist as we sway too-slowly to the frantic tunes around us.

It’s like we are floating. Lightweight and untethered.

The emotion courses through me like liquid adrenaline.

“You are golden like sunshine!” A high-pitched giggle reaches my ears, and when I realize it’s coming from me, I laugh even harder. “I am…aroused!”

“It’s the music,” he whispers in my ear. “Perhaps the wine as well, but dancing to faerie music heightens one’s… intoxication.”

“The berries, the roses, the wine, the music…” I trail off, nuzzling Eoin’s neck. His shoulders shake as he chuckles. “This place is fun.”

“If you think this little shindy is fun, you should see the parties we throw at Terra Court.” His voice is seductive, and it sends tingles down my spine. “How exactly did one so lovely come to be in such a nefarious place, any way?” He tilts his head, eyeing me with interest.

“Shhh.” I whisper, placing a finger to his lips. “It isn’t quite bad here, really.”

“I’m going to make the assumption you mean here in my arms, and not in this gods-foresaken court.”

“Not partial to the Prince of Fear?” A giggle bubbles out of my mouth.

“Is it obvious?” He wraps his arms around me, his fingers dancing along my spine. “I don’t want to talk about him right now,” he whispers.

Me neither. I give Eoin a sly look, emboldened from all the wine I’ve drank tonight. “And what do you want to do instead?”

“This.”

Before I can prepare for it, he’s pressing his mouth against mine. I giggle against his lips, but it quickly subsides as his tongue presses inside and we find a rhythm.

“Alessia!”

My name is hissed with venom, snapping me from my moment of fun.

I pull away from Eoin, and lo and behold, the prince I’m trying to ignore stands a few paces away. His arms are crossed across his broad chest. His lips are pursed, his teeth clenched so tight I’m surprised he hasn’t cracked them yet.

“You two have matching ears,” I say, fingering the shiny studs on Eoin’s ears. I lean in and nibble his bottom lobe for good measure.

Rainer’s nostrils flare as he seethes.

“Get away from her, Eoin,” he growls.

I’ve never seen him so angry—so possessive.

Chuckling, Eoin turns to face Rainer.

“It’s rude to interrupt a lady’s good time.” He winks at me before flicking his gaze back to Rainer.

Rainer steps forward, features tight and his sharp eyes trained on me.
