“We’re here, sir.”

“Thank you.”

I exited the plane and walked through the airport, where I could rent a car for the rest of the ride. I had another forty-minute drive before I could even make it to Lake Tahoe. But as I walked through the airport, there she was, and it was like everything around me was moving in slow motion. Her hair swayed around her, and her cheeks were flush, I remembered she was nervous flying.

She smiled wide when a man approached her, and they hugged. Chris. Why the hell was he talking to her? Was he here to pick her up?

I marched up to them, and without a thought, I punched him square in the jaw.

“Jameson?” Brielle questioned.

“What the fuck, man?” Chris held his jaw.

Anger fueled through me and I couldn’t think straight.

“What are you doing here?” Brielle asked.

“Looking for you, but it looks like you two have plans of your own.” I stepped back because I wanted to throw another punch.

“Fuck, man. We just now saw each other. She’s coming to Lake Tahoe, and I’m headed out on a business trip,” Chris told me. “I was offering her my place while I was out of town.”

“What? What the fuck, Brielle?” My God, Brielle, how could you?” My face flinched in anger.

“It’s not like that, Jameson.”

“Then tell me what it’s like?” I had to laugh otherwise I would punch something. “Tell me!”

Chris threw his hands up in frustration. “I’m not even going to justify myself. It’s ridiculous that you would think that low of me. Especially after we’ve been friends for years.”

He didn’t wait for a response from me. He said, “I’m out. Brielle.”

Chapter Eighteen

BRIELLE

I crossed my arms across my chest. “Well?”

“You tell me,” he told me.

I stepped close to him. “It’s true. We literally just ran into each other; nothing is going on between us.” I laughed. “He’s telling the truth. I wasn’t planning on meeting him, especially behind your back.”

“Shit. I need to apologize to him.”

“He’s gone now. Why are you here, Jameson?”

“You were just going to leave and not say anything?”

“I don’t like goodbyes.”

“Why are you here, Brielle?”

I took a step back and looked at my feet before meeting his gaze again. “I’m here for work, you fool.”

“You are?”

“Yes.” I shoved him. “Do you really think that low of me, Jameson? Do you think I would sneak and come here to see Chris behind your back?”
