“I didn’t know.”
“Well, you’re an asshole.” I turned to walk away from him.
“I love you, Brielle Delaney.”
My breathing hitched, and I turned to face Jameson again. “What?”
He closed the distance between us, cupped my face, and looked deep into my eyes, it was like he could see my soul. “I don’t want to lose you, Brielle.” His voice cracked. “I fucking love you.”
Tears streaked my cheeks.
“Brielle, say something.”
I couldn’t breathe, and I felt dizzy. I couldn’t see anything or anyone moving around us. It was just Jameson and me. “I love you too.”
I cried. Jameson took his thumb and swiped my tears. “Why are you crying?”
“I’m pregnant. I found out this morning, and I knew you wouldn’t want anything to do with me. That’s the real reason why I left and took the job.”
Jameson’s face contorted. “What? Are you that delusional that you’d think I would abandon you and my baby?” He was smiling.
“Why are smiling like a fool?”
“You just told me you are pregnant with my baby. It is mine, right?”
I playfully punched him in the chest. “Yes!”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to overreact.”
“Yes, you did.”
“I’m not trying to make excuses, but it just goes back to my childhood and into my adulthood. I never got close to anyone because everyone left. And you left, and I was looking everywhere for you. I even called Kali.”
“You did?” I was surprised to hear he went to the lengths he did to find me.
“I did. I had to find you and tell you I loved you. And I was going to ask if you would move in with me.”
“And now?”
“Brielle, will you move with me? And we can start our life together.”
“Yes. Yes, I will. It seems like we still have a lot to learn about each other.”
He smiled. “I can agree with that. Now where are you headed?”
“I was just going to rent a car.”

When we were in the car, Jameson texted Chris while I drove us, and he apologized and said, “We are still free to use the house.”
I didn’t know how to feel going back there.
“We can rent a place there ourselves if it makes you feel uncomfortable going there.”
“No. Chris isn’t there, we might as well take advantage of the place if it’s fine with you.”
“Okay.”
