I interrupted her. “Which one?”

“LaGuardia. She has a flight in an hour. What airline?”

“American Airlines. Thank you.” I pressed end on the phone, rushed to my car, and weaved in and out of traffic trying to make it to LaGuardia Airport, which in normal traffic takes about thirty minutes to get there. If I’ll even be able to find her.

Finally, there in twenty minutes, I park and rush inside, looking in all directions for her. Why didn’t I ask Kali where Brielle was headed? Looking at the board, I find American Airlines in Section B. I looked all around, spinning in all directions to no avail.

I was trying to catch my breath while I called Slice and Dice back.

“Kali, please,” I said as soon as the receptionist answered.

“This is Kali.”

“Kali, it’s Jameson again. Where is Brielle headed?”

“Lake Tahoe why?”

Hearing those words was like a punch to my gut. Why the hell was she going there?”

“I just want to surprise her so don’t tell her.”

“Okay.”

I pressed end on the phone and called to get my pilot to get the plane ready. All kinds of thoughts were racing through my mind. I couldn’t figure out why she would be going there unless she was seeing Chris. Is this why she has been acting distant because she has feelings for him? He couldn’t care less about a one-night stand, but then again, he was attracted to her enough to have sex with her and flirted with her right in front of my face. Chris didn’t care who he used up, and when he was done, he’d throw them away like trash.

At the airport where my plane was stored, I called my mom.

“Hi, Jameson.”

“Mom. I need to go out of town for…”

“Brielle?”

“How’d you know?”

“I saw how quickly you left and figured it had to do with her.”

“I don’t want you thinking I don’t care about the business.”

“Son, go get the girl.” It was weird I could hear her smile through the phone.

“Thanks, mom.”

“Titan Enterprises will still be here when you get back.”

“Okay. See you when I get back.”

Was my mom actually coming around to care about me?

Half an hour passed when the pilot approached me. “The plane is ready, sir.”

“Thank you. Head to Lake Tahoe.”

“Sure thing.”

I boarded the plane and realized I didn’t have a bag packed or anything. All I cared about was seeing Brielle’s face when I found her. She had a lot of explaining to do. Or maybe she made her mind up, and I would have to accept that.

Once the plane was in the sky, I tried calling Brielle again, but she wasn’t answering, and it made me panic even more. This was going to be the longest flight of my life.
