With blue eyes and dark hair, I could tell he was going to look just like his father.
When I turned to Ethan, I saw tears in his eyes. It tugged at my heartstrings. I'd never seen him in tears.
He watched the baby in my arms before slowly moving to hold him.
“He looks just like me,” he whispered.
“He does.” I felt my own tears wet my cheeks too. But I didn't dare take my eyes off the both of them.
My world… no, half of it. Sophie was the other half.
I breathed.
God, it all felt perfect like this.
His loving stare and our baby in his arms.
When he looked back at me again, he had the widest smile ever.
“You don't know how much joy you've brought me.” He took slow strides until he got to me.
Slowly he leaned down to place a lingering kiss on my forehead.
“You've given me a piece of heaven, Evie. Thank you.”
EPILOGUE: Evie
Two And A Half Years Later
“The solar system!” I nodded appreciatively at Jason, the green-eyed boy in front of the class.
Indeed, today’s lesson was about the solar system and instead of just teaching, I was incorporating movement and creativity for fun learning and engagement.
The large classroom was sectioned into different stations, each a representation of the nine planets.
The first was the sun. Large, yellow foam circles were used to depict that.
The next was Mercury. Construction paper planets and colorful pipe cleaners orbited a mini model of the sun.
All the planets followed each other like that.
I made sure to have all their attention before walking to a random planet.
“Who can tell me what this is?”
This time, there was a delay in response. I let my eyes scan over the expanse of students. No one knew?
We’d done this before— solar system— this was the practical class, and honestly, I was proud of how good they’d been doing.
“Anyone?” I made sure to keep my voice warm and soft.
“Venus?” I recognized the girl who talked as Rosemary.
Glancing at the giant red ball, I glanced back at her.
“That is incorrect, Rose-Mary.”
She instantly looked sad, and I quickly walked up to her to pat her shoulders.
