"I'm not doing anything special,” Gwen said. “It's just programming."

Lakewood laughed. "It's not just programming. You can see the logic points a lot faster than most people. And you know how to ask the computer to spit out what you want."

"Yeah, programming," she said with a shrug.

She stood, and Micah and Morgan went with her, and I was left alone with Lakewood.

I fixed him with a glare. "What gives? What are you really doing back in New York?"

He pursed his lips, his gaze flitting over to Gwen. "Can I trust you not to tell Gwen?"

I narrowed my gaze at him. "I won't lie to her."

"But could you maybe not offer her information until we know more?"

I gave him a sharp nod. "Yes, what is it?"

"I did have some work to transfer, but someone broke into our flat in London."

I lifted a brow. "What?"

"The flat. My stuff was untouched, but everything Gwen left behind was shredded. There's nothing left of it. From coats to panties, it was all cut into ribbons."

Something sick roiled around in my gut. "Surveillance?"

He shook his head. "Nope. There was a little fire in the basement level, and it shut off electricity for exactly forty-five seconds. The generators came on, but then all cameras on our floor were blacked out."

This was the worst kind of news. "Fuck."

"Yeah. It's not great."

"When did this happen?"

"The day you left for the Winston Isles. I was in France for that summit. Then I went straight to the Winston Isles for the wedding. I didn't want to bother you on your honeymoon, so you're finding out now. It's like someone expected Gwen to be in London."

"And she wasn't."

He cocked his head. "And you weren't either."

"So whoever it is, isn’t as on top of our movements as we thought."

"I have no idea, but I don't think it's a wise idea to tell Gwen just yet."

He had a point. I didn’t want to scare her. "Fucking hell."

"Yeah. Are you sure your old man was accounted for?"

"Yeah, we have him. He was in Canada but he’s back in New York now."

"Then maybe you need to start entertaining the idea that there might be someone else with a grudge."

He leveled me with a meaningful look, and I glanced toward my wife, who was now laughing with my brother and her sister as they tried to find the man from five years ago. When more than likely, we had an enemy at our gates.

Chapter 37

GWEN

I glanced up from my conversation with Micah and Morgan. Atticus was making his angry face.
