"We had a date this morning."

"No, we certainly did not.”

"That's funny. We were supposed to be getting on a plane."

"Were we?" I asked with a shrug then opened my drawer to drop my purse inside.

"Yes. Remember, I told you?"

"I vaguely remember you saying something about that. However, what really baffles me is whether or not I agreed. You just told me we were leaving and to pack my bags and be ready to go at six a.m. But I didn't want to go. I know it’s shocking to you that someone wouldn't immediately listen to your orders, but I chose not to go with you. I sure hope you find someone else."

"I think you forget you still work for me."

"Do I? Then fire me," I said, calling his bluff.

He narrowed his gaze at me. "I really don't want that. The software application isn’t done. I like to see things through to the end."

The only thing I had going for me was my ability to call his bluff. He could fire me if he wanted, but at the end of the day, I would not just do as I was told. He could feel free to kiss my ass if he thought I would.

"Here's the problem, Ness, you think that this is a joke. It's not. Twice now, someone has tried to hurt you."

What the hell? "Twice? What are you talking about? And let’s not forget the train thing was probably an accident."

"You call someone trying to shove you off a platform an accident?"

"Atticus, you saw how crazy it was. There was pushing, jostling, and shoving around. It could have been anybody."

"How are you so bloody brilliant and so bloody daft at the same time?"

"Watch your tongue,” I warned. “Do not call me daft."

"You are the most brilliant woman I know, yet you're choosing to believe that it was an accident?"

"The most likely answer is probably the right one."

"Enough,” he said, his voice laced with frustration. “I'm not arguing with you. Get your things. We're going." He said it with such finality. As if he had a right to tell me what to do.

"The only way I'm leaving here, Atticus Price, is if you tie me up and carry me on that plane."

He lifted a brow. "I didn't know you were into kink, but I can make that work." Then he signaled for someone behind the bloody door. I turned and found Rowan, who looked irritated.

I shrugged. "Sorry."

"I don't take it personally,” he said. “I know it's more about him than it is about me."

I grinned at him then. "I like you."

Rowan chuckled softly. "I hope you still like me when I actually have to help him carry you out of here."

I turned back to Atticus. "Carry me if you want. However, if you do, then I promise you, Atticus Price, I will never forgive you."

He continued to scowl. "It won't go that far because, my darling fiancée, you’re going to cave this time."

"The hell I am. And I'm not your fiancée anymore."

"You are a stubborn, obstinate, pain in the?—"

I cut him off. "Aw, there you go talking dirty again."
