“Shit!” I quickly sat up.

“What’s wrong?” Jordyn let out a long stretch.

“I forgot to take my birth control pill last night. It was so late when I came in, and I was exhausted.”

“You’ll be okay. Just go take it now and the other one tonight.” She rolled over.

I climbed out of bed, used the bathroom, and when I went to grab my pills from the bathroom counter where I left them, the packet was gone. Furrowing my brows, I searched the bathroom. Panic started to set in, and I ran over to Jordyn’s bed.

“Wake up!” I shook her shoulder. “Have you seen my pills?”

“They were on the bathroom sink yesterday morning when we left for breakfast,” she sleepily replied.

“They aren’t there, Jordyn!”

“What do you mean?” She pulled the pillow over her head.

“They’re gone. I can’t find them anywhere, and Miles and I had free sex!”

She threw the pillow to the other side, and her wide eyes stared at me.

“You had sex without a condom?! What is wrong with you?”

“It was the heat of the moment! Oh my God. What am I going to do? Where are they?” I ran around the room, opening every dresser drawer and my bag.

“Calm down,” she said.

“Calm down? I can’t calm down!” I picked up my phone, opened my period app, and looked at the big fat words scrolling across the screen: FERTILE PERIOD. I held my phone in front of Jordyn’s face.

“Oh shit. Okay. Let me call down to the desk and see if they’ll send the housekeeper up who cleaned the room yesterday. Maybe she put them somewhere,” Jordyn spoke, reaching over and grabbing the room’s phone. “Hi, this is Jordyn. Can you tell me who the housekeeper was who cleaned our room yesterday? Yes. I’ll hold. Is she here today? Great. Can you please send her up ASAP? We need to ask her something. Oh, she is? Thank you.” She hung up the phone. “She’s right down the hall cleaning one of the rooms. I’ll go get her.” She slipped on her robe. I held the door open while Jordyn went to talk to her. Within a moment, she walked back with her.

“Hi.” I smiled. “Yesterday morning, I had a pack of birth control pills on the bathroom counter. Now, they’re not there. Do you remember seeing them when you were cleaning the bathroom?”

“No.” Her tone was abrupt.

“Are you sure? Because they were there. I put them there, on the counter, by the sink.”

“No. I didn’t see any pills.”

“Bullshit, lady!” I jammed my finger into her. “They were there. Now they’re gone!”

“Whoa, Stella.” Jordyn stepped in between.

“If there were pills there, I would have left them.”

“Really?” I cocked my head. “And you’re telling me that you would have just cleaned around them instead of picking them up and setting them somewhere else?”

“I would have picked them up and put them back down immediately. Maybe you shouldn’t be so careless.”

“That’s it!” I lunged at her, and Jordyn stopped me.

“You’re both crazy, and you’re slobs, too!” The lady shouted as she walked out of the room.

“Jordyn’s the slob, not me!” I yelled.

“Okay. Calm down.” Jordyn gripped my shoulders. “There’s a CVS around the corner. I’ll get dressed and go get you Plan B.”

“Thanks, Jordyn.” I hugged her.
