“You don’t know that,” she whispered.

He stared back at her, both eyebrows raised.

She lowered her gaze. “Sorry, Sir. I didn’t mean—”

He tipped her chin up so she was looking at him again. “I’m not upset with you, gattina. I do, however, want to understand why you think your boss would fire you for being a member of a kink club when her best friend is one.”

That, at least, had her thinking. “I just don’t want Beth to think less of me.”

“Why would I think less of you?” They hadn’t heard the couple approach, but it was obvious at least part of their conversation had been overheard.

Grace stiffened once again in his arms.

“Good evening, Beth. Drew,” Alexander said to the new arrivals.

The look on Grace’s face was priceless. Her eyes were as big as saucers and her mouth was parted in an O shape. He could see the wheels turning in her head. If Beth was here, that meant she was a member as well.

“Alexander.” Beth took a seat beside Nicole and tossed a pillow onto the floor near her feet. Without any further instruction, Drew lowered himself down onto the pillow.

A few seconds passed before Alexander brushed his thumb over Grace’s lips, drawing her out of her thoughts and back to the present. “I do believe Beth is still waiting on an answer.”

Grace swallowed before twisting slightly so she didn’t have her back to Beth. “I don’t know. I just... you never know how people will react.” She paused and glanced down at her lap. “I didn’t know you were...”

“A Domme?” Beth looked mildly amused.

Grace looked at Beth and he saw the beginnings of a smile. “Yeah.”

“I was wondering if you were a submissive,” Drew said from Beth’s feet. It had been interesting watching their relationship evolve over the last two months. “It’s good to have another sub to balance things out.”

Beth ran a single nail along the back of Drew’s neck. Alexander was grateful for Drew’s levity. He’d made Grace feel as if she was part of the group.

“Were you and your husband in the lifestyle?” Beth asked Grace.

Grace nodded. “For about ten years.”

“That’s impressive,” Nicole said.

Alexander had to agree. Keeping up any relationship while overseas came with challenges. He couldn’t fathom the difficulties of balancing a D/s relationship when one partner was in a war zone.

“It just worked for us.” He felt Grace shrink against him and knew she was ready for the spotlight to be off her.

Patting her leg, he indicated he wanted her to stand. “Excuse us. We’re going to get something to drink, and then we need to find Katrina and Justin.” He used his cane to help him to stand even though he really didn’t need it tonight. He’d only brought it as a precaution.

They made their way across the room to the bar. There were several people waiting on drinks, so it was a few minutes before Brandon got around to serving them. “What can I get you?”

Alexander looked at Grace. She was nervous, but he didn’t think she was about ready to bolt so that was progress. “What would you like?”

“White wine, please.”

He nodded. “One white wine and a water.”

Brandon grinned and headed toward the opposite end of the bar.

Once he returned with their drinks, Alexander surveyed the crowd until he located Katrina coming out of the back rooms, most likely from her office.

Alexander placed a hand on Grace’s back and began heading in Katrina’s direction.
