Charlotte finally straightens from buttoning the back to see my reflection. “Wow,” she says with a gasp. “You’re not kidding, Camilla. This dress was made for her. You look gorgeous, Ms. Newman.”

“Thank you,” I whisper through tears threatening to fall.

“I have one final thing to complete your look. Give me one moment.” Camilla goes out the back door of the dressing room one more time and comes back with a delicate crystal tiara. “Every Luna must have a tiara, Olivia,” she says, setting it in place. “There. Are you ready to let everyone have a look? I know they’re dying in suspense out there.”

“Yes, I’m ready.”

Camilla leaves the dressing room first. “Ladies, I present to you, your future Luna.” She nods to me with a smile. I walk into the showroom where Chloe, Caroline, and Vanessa are waiting, and every one of them covers their mouths with a gasp, even Caroline, though she quickly regains her composure.

“Olivia, wow. I just…wow,” Chloe says, tearing up herself.

“It’s beautiful work, Camilla,” Caroline says. Vanessa subtly elbows her in the side, and she manages to mutter, “You look lovely, Olivia.”

“You look seriously hot, girl,” Vanessa says, and we all laugh.

“Liv, Ethan is going to go crazy for you in that gown,” Chloe adds.

“Need we look any further, Olivia? Or, is this the one?” Camilla asks.

“I am absolutely in love with this gown. I suppose I should have asked about the cost first.”

“It’s not for you to worry about, dear,” Camilla replies. “I’ve been instructed to provide you with any gown you wish.”

I smile and nod in return. “This is most definitely the one.”

I look to Caroline, who gives me a tight smile. “It seems my son is willing to do just about anything for you.” I exchange looks with Chloe and then Vanessa, who raises her eyebrows at me.

“You’re right, Caroline. Ethan loves me so much, and I’m so lucky he’s going to be my mate and my husband. There isn’t anything or anyone in this world that could keep us apart.” Caroline’s mouth drops open and Vanessa has to bite her lip to keep from laughing.

“Perfect,” Camilla says, not even noticing the interaction taking place. “The dress fits you like a glove. We won’t even need to do alterations. I think this was one of the easiest appointments I’ve ever had. Thank you for being such a pleasure to work with, Olivia,” Camilla says, giving me a hug. “I’ll put this in a secure location for you, Olivia,” Camilla says after sheand Charlotte help me change. “I will bring the gown to the pack house for you next Saturday, and of course, I’ll be there to help you get dressed.”

“Thank you so much, Camilla,” I say as the four of us leave her store, and then Chloe and I say our goodbyes and make the short drive back home.

“I see what you’re saying about Caroline,” Chloe says.

“Right? Do you think it’s because I’m human, or is it because I left that day and the whole Ian situation?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never seen her behave that way. I’m not saying this to make you feel bad, but I happen to know she has a lot of human friends, so I think it’s probably because you kind of rejected Ethan when you ran. Then he went to the extreme of fighting in his wolf form to get you back. Don’t get me wrong, I know Ethan wasn’t innocent in that situation, but she’s his mom.”

“Yeah, I get that. I just don’t know what else to do to win her over. It seemed like she was intentionally mean today.”

“I agree. I noticed. Just give her some time. Once she sees you’re here to stay and you love Ethan, I’m sure she’ll eventually come around.”

“I hope you’re right.” We pull into the driveway, and I have a bit of anxiety as I think about getting out of the car.

“What’s wrong?” Chloe asks, sensing my apprehension.

“I’m just nervous about this council meeting this afternoon.”

“Stay strong,” Chloe says. “Let Ethan stand up for you. He knows how to handle those guys. I love you and I’ll be thinking of you.”

“Thanks, Chloe. I love you too.” We hug each other tight before I get out of the car.

“Call me if you need anything, okay?”

“I will. Bye, Chloe.”

“Bye, Liv.”
