When I go inside the house, I find the charming, sexy reason I’m making this transition sitting in the living room reading on his iPad.

“Hey, baby. How did the dress appointment go?” he asks, getting up and walking over to kiss me.

“I am in love with my gown. I can’t wait for you to see it.”

“That’s great news. I can’t wait to see it.”

“Uh huh,” I say, staring off into space.

“Olivia.” He places his hands on my shoulders, pulling my attention back to him. “What’s wrong? Talk to me.”

“I just want to get the meeting with the council over with.”

“Me too,” he says looking at the time on his phone. “We’ll leave in a few minutes. You have time to grab some lunch before we go.”

I shake my head and frown. “No. No food.”

“Olivia—”

“Ethan, no. Please. Not right now. My stomach is too nervous to eat. I promise once this is all over you can feed me.”

“Okay,” he says with a sigh. “I suppose I won’t force you.”

“Thank you,” I say, going to him and snuggling into his chest as he wraps his arms around me. “So, I have to assume that with everything going on, word is starting to circulate about me being human and your mate now?”

“Yes, and I sent out a pack wide announcement this morning. It’s official now.” I nod, releasing a deep breath through pursed lips. “I’m so sorry you’re going through this. The whole thing just pisses me off.”

I look into his gorgeous blue eyes, and my heart reminds me that a life with him is worth the risk. He’s everything I could possibly want. “I’m okay. It’s all just feeling very real, knowing we’ll receive a decision today. Not to mention that I’m now starting to think about the fact that I’ll no longer be human anymore. It just feels…strange.”

Ethan takes my face in his hands and kisses me with gentle lips. “You’re still going to be you, Olivia. I promise you that.” I smile and he brings his lips to mine once again.

“I’m just nervous.”

“Understandably so.” He kisses me again. “It’s time to go. Are you ready?”

I take a deep breath and nod. “Yes. Let’s do this.”

Olivia

The Combined Pack Council agreed to meet with us at the Pinewood Pack House today, and when we arrive, Edwin is waiting for us outside.

“Hello, Olivia,” Edwin says, kissing me on the cheek. “How are you?”

“I’ll be okay once all of this is settled. The anticipation of what’s to come is killing me.”

“Understandable,” Edwin says with a nod.

“Before we get in too deep, we want to share some happy news with you,” Ethan says, holding my hand up so his dad can see my engagement ring.

“Well,” Edwin says with a big smile, “that’s wonderful. Congratulations,” he says as he hugs me and then Ethan.

I thank him, and Ethan says, “Olivia is changing her entire life for me, and I want her to have the wedding she always imagined.”

“It certainly is nice to hear such good news today,” Edwin says.

“What’s the mood like in there?” Ethan asks.

“You know how most of them are,” Edwin says, “they hold their opinions close to their chests until the time comes. I do know we have the support of my personal friends.”
