“Fuck.” I run my hands through my hair, and shake my head. “No.”

“But, Ethan?—”

“Baby, no. I won’t lose you. I think I should consider stepping down. You and I will go off on our own before I allow them to do this to you.”

“What? Absolutely not, Ethan. I won’t allow you to step down as Alpha.”

I pull her into my body, and her scent surrounds me. “I won’t lose you, Olivia.”

“What if this is the only way?” Olivia asks.

“Dr. Carter, are you sure this is something your team is prepared to handle?” I ask, releasing Olivia and pulling her to my side.

“We’ll be as prepared as we possibly can. I promise Olivia will be our top priority and we will give her our very best care. Shall we continue with the exam?”

“Go ahead.” When I find another way to make this happen, I want to be sure Olivia is in good health so we can proceed.

“Well, Olivia, your blood pressure and heart rate are excellent, and you seem to be a very healthy young woman, which is definitely in your favor,” Dr. Carter says after examining Olivia. “All I need to do is get a blood sample and then I can be on my way.” She fills two tubes with blood and packs up her things. “I think we’re all set here,” she says, standing. “Oh, and Dr. Harper asked me to let you know Olivia’s blood report from the other night came back clear,” she says with a smile.

“Excellent. I’m happy to hear it.” I take Olivia’s hand and squeeze it.

“Okay, I’ll be on my way then. We’ll let you know if there are any problems.”

“Thank you, Dr. Carter,” I say as we walk her to the door.

“Thank you, Jillian. We’ll see you soon,” Olivia says with a smile as Dr. Carter leaves.

Ethan rubs his hands up and down his face, letting out a loud sigh. I go to him and he pulls me into his strong arms. “You know, I feel safer here than I’ve ever felt anywhere my entire life…right here in your arms.”

“That’s because youarethe safest here,” he says. “I’ll always do anything to protect you, and that’s why I can’t let you be turned in public. It will be out of my control. I don’t like being out of control, Olivia, especially regarding your safety.”

“I know you don’t,” I say, smiling into his chest. “So, what do I need to know for our meeting with the council?” I ask, pulling away. “I’m a little nervous.”

“Don’t be nervous. I’ll be right there with you,” he says. “Just tell them everything that happened with Ian. I’ll be there to back you up all the way.”

“Okay, and with the transition?”

“I’d really like it if you could trust me to handle the council when it comes to your transition. I know how to talk to them.”

“Okay,” I say with a nod. I know he’s determined to turn the world upside down, if necessary, to stop this public transition from happening. I look up at him. “I trust you with my life, Ethan.”

He leans down to kiss me gently. “That means everything to me.”

“So, this surprise,” I say, looking forward to doing something that doesn’t have to do with me transitioning into a werewolf, “is it happening soon?”

Ethan looks at his watch and then looks out the glass on the front door. “I think it’s about to start right now.” He nods for me to look.

“Ethan.” My mouth drops open when I see the beautiful Mercedes limousine sitting outside, as the driver stands by the car. “It’s beautiful. So, where is it taking me?”

“Well, Chloe is already in the limo waiting for you so the two of you can enjoy a spa day together.”

“You’re the best. Do you know that?” I take his face in my hands and give him a lingering kiss. “Thank you for this, Ethan.”

“Enjoy your day. I’ll see you later when the real fun begins,” he says with a grin.

“Well, I can’t wait for that. I’ll see you later.” I kiss him once more before walking out to the limo.
