“You kissed?” Chloe interrupts as her eyes get bigger—if that’s even possible at this point.

“Of course, we kissed. She’s my mate.”

“Ethan, are you one hundred percent sure about this?” Nick questions. “Olivia doesn’t know anything about who we really are, and if we tell her?—”

“There’s no doubt in my mind. I need the two of you to bring her back to me.”

“Ethan, you met Colin. He’s her fiancé,” Chloe says, wringing her hands.

My fists clench at the thought of his hands and lips on her. “It took every ounce of restraint I had—he won’t be around much longer. I just need the two of you to get Olivia back in the same room with me again. I’ll take it from there.”

“Ethan, I don’t think it will be that simple,” Chloe says.

“The girls just finished their graduate programs. I’m taking them out dancing to celebrate tomorrow night,” Nick offers. “Colin won’t be there. He has other plans.”

Chloe elbows him. “Nick, what are you doing? Do you really expect me to tell her I’ve been lying to her all these years? What do I say…hey, Liv, I’ve been meaning to tell you Nick and I are werewolves? Oh, and by the way, you’re our Alpha’s mate.”

“Listen, guys, we’re all friends here, but I’m sure I don’t need to remind you, as Alpha, my word stands. This woman is my mate, and you will bring her to me.”

“Of course,” Nick says. “We’ll help you figure this out. Right, Chloe?”

Chloe takes a big gulp of her wine. “Fine, but I don’t like this,” she says, shaking her head and emptying her glass. “Meet us at The Pack House tomorrow night at 9:00.”

Sinking on the couch, I pick up the framed picture of Colin and me from the end table as tears run down my cheeks. What is going on with me? This is not who I am. I don’t cheat.

Why do I even feel conflicted over this?

I can’t get the feeling of Ethan’s lips out of my mind. I can’t stop thinking about his scent and his touch. I can still feel the strength of his arms wrapped around me. My chest aches, and I’m unsure if it’s guilt over what I’ve done, or because I may never get the chance to do it again.

To make things even worse, Colin sent me a massive arrangement of hot pink roses this morning with a card saying he loves me and apologizing for not being able to celebrate with us tonight. He’s thinking of me and sending me flowers while I sit here thinking about kissing another man.

“How are you feeling this morning?” Chloe asks when she calls to confirm our plans for tonight. I sit in silence for a minute as the angst rises to the surface again. “Liv? Are you okay?”

“I really need to tell you something.”

“Okay,” she says in a soft voice. “You can tell me anything. You know that.”

“I just…if I tell you this, do you promise not to judge me?”

“Olivia, I’d never judge you. Whatever it is, you can tell me.”

“I did something last night.”

“Okay…what did you do?”

“I…I, uh?—”

“Liv, it’s okay. Just tell me.”

I take a deep breath and release it. “I kissed Ethan last night. Well, he kissed me, but I definitely didn’t push him away, and I definitely kissed him back. More than once. Like three times. Oh, my God, Chloe. What have I done?”

“Olivia, it’s okay,” she says in her calming voice. She doesn’t seem surprised at all.

“He told you. Didn’t he?” Of course, he did.
