“He mentioned it to us after you left last night. I figured you’d tell me if it’s something you want to talk about.”

“So, Nick knows too?”

“Yes, but you know he isn’t going to judge you either.”

“Jesus, Chloe. I don’t do shit like this. I don’t cheat.”

“Liv, it’s okay.”

“No, it’s not. How is this okay? I cheated on my fiancé, and with a man I don’t even know. Then, to make things worse, he started telling me that I belong to him now, and he was telling me not to let Colin touch me,” I say with a sarcastic laugh. “Colin…my fiancé, Chloe.”

“So, did he?” she asks. “Did anything happen between you and Colin last night?”

“What? I mean, no. Colin had to meet his dad, and things were pretty tense on the way home last night, thanks to Ethan.”

“Oh, okay.” Chloe releases what sounds like a sigh of relief and pauses for a moment. “Ethan is…well, he’s really into you.”

“He just needs to get over it then.”

“Well, but just out of curiosity, how do you feel about Ethan? I mean, like you said, you don’t do things like this. There must have been some serious attraction there.”

“It doesn’t matter. I’m engaged, Chloe.”

“I know,” she says with another sigh. “Do you know what you need? You need to go out tonight like we planned. We’re going to go have some Mexican food and margaritas, maybe a couple of tequila shots, then we’re going to The Pack House, and we’re going to dance our asses off. I promise it’ll make you feel better.”

“I mean, I guess, but it won’t solve anything. What about Colin? Do I tell him?”

“Don’t do anything for now. We’ll figure it all out tonight, okay?”

It feels like she’s kind of blowing it all off, but I suppose she just doesn’t want me to feel so bad about what I’ve done. “Okay, but you promise to help me through this tonight?”

“Of course. Don’t beat yourself up about this, Liv. Everything is going to be okay. We’ll pick you up at 7:30.”

“Okay, I’ll see you then.”

When they pick me up for our night out, we stop at Paco’s, our favorite Mexican restaurant, for dinner and a couple of margaritas before going to The Pack House. Mariachi music plays in the background while the smell of tacos and sizzling fajitas surrounds us. The tequila in my margarita is the only thing relaxing the tight knot in my stomach. So far, none of us has mentioned Ethan. I’m sure Chloe is waiting for me to bring it up, but I feel a little awkward talking about it in front of Nick, so I decide to let it go for now.

Nick takes a drink of his margarita. “So, you and Ethan, huh?” My eyes widen, and I start coughing on the big drink I just took. So much for letting it go.

Chloe elbows Nick in his side. “Why would you say that?” She looks back at me. “I’m sorry, Liv. Are you okay?”

“What’s wrong with what I said? They kissed,” Nick says.

I clear my throat and take a deep breath. “There is no Ethan and me, Nick.”

“Are you sure?” he asks. “What about last night?”

“Nick, stop,” Chloe says.

“What? I’m just asking,” he says with a shrug.

“Listen, I know Ethan is your friend, but what happened between us last night was a mistake.”

“It doesn’t have to be,” Nick says.

“Nick, I’m engaged.”

“And I told you we weren’t going to harass her about it,” Chloe says to Nick before finishing off her margarita.
