“You also remember Nick has the code to get into your building and a spare set of keys?”

“Damn it,” I say, shaking my head. “Why can’t he just let this go?”

“Liv, listen, I’m on your side as your friend, but you know why he can’t stop. He can’t ignore what he feels for you, and soon, you won’t be able to either. I honestly can’t believe you want to ignore it. I can see how attracted you are to him.”

“I just want some space, Chloe. He’s so fucking controlling.”

“We do call him Alpha for a reason,” she says with a shrug.

Pulling into the parking lot at my apartment complex, Ethan and Nick are right behind us. I jump out of Chloe’s car and run toward the door. As I turn to pull the door closed behind me, I’m met with a determined set of steel blue eyes. He walks inside and proceeds to walk ahead of me toward the elevator.

“Are you coming?” he asks, pushing the button on the elevator.

“Ethan, just go home.”

“I’m not giving up on this, Olivia. We need to talk. Please. Come on. Just talk to me.”

Crossing my arms with a sigh, I walk to the elevator. Part of me wants to slap him, while the other part wants him to take me in his arms, push me up against the wall and kiss me until I can’t breathe. Stepping into the elevator, I press my back to a side wall while Ethan stands in the middle. I keep my gaze focused on the ground, but I can feel his eyes roaming my body. The elevator door opens, and he gestures for me to exit first.

“This is me,” I say when I unlock my door and step inside. “I’ve been in school, so I couldn’t afford much. It’s pretty small, nothing like what you’re used to.”

“I like it here.” He takes a deep breath in, visibly relaxing. “The entire space smells like you.”

I roll my eyes. “You know, I’d appreciate it if you could just stop smelling me for a little bit, please.”

Ethan grins and looks around. He walks over to the refrigerator where I have multiple photos of Colin and me and his entire demeanor changes. He growls a low, deep growl, but this one is much louder than the one he released at Colin’s house. There is something so incredibly sexy about that growl. It’s primal and possessive, and it makes me want to let him lay claim to every part of me. I’m so pissed off, but I don’t know how to keep these impulses from taking control.

“Something bothering you?” I ask mockingly. I can’t resist poking the wolf right now.

Ethan

I whip my head around at her comment. She wants to see how far she can push me, does she? I take fast strides over to her, and she gasps when her back hits the wall, my mouth hovering just above hers.

“Are you taunting me, Olivia?” Her breath stills and I harden in my pants as I lower my forehead to touch hers. I trace my finger over her cheek and down her neck.

“Are you going to exert your dominance over me now too?” she whispers.

“Careful, you might enjoy it.” She’d fucking love it.

“Ethan, I put those photos there before I knew you existed.”

“It doesn’t mean I have to like it.” There isn’t any part of me that will ever be okay with seeing her with him.

“You’ve been very aggressive today.”

I’ve actually been tame because I don’t want to scare her. “I’m an Alpha. I’m aggressive every day. You need to get usedto the Alpha side of me that takes over. It’s part of my instinct, Olivia.”

“Why should I have to get used to that?”

“Because you’re mine,” I whisper against her cheek. “You know this is going to happen with us. Quit fucking fighting it, Olivia.” I rest my forehead against hers again, and she’s completely still as I trace her jaw with my finger. “I’m never going to apologize for defending and protecting you, and what happened back there doesn’t change a thing about the connection you and I have. You know that.” If anything, the biggest obstacle we had is now out of the way.

“No one has ever stood up for me like that before.”

“I’ll always stand up for you.” Her scent consumes me in our close proximity, sending my need to make her mine racing through my body.

“I think I might like that about you,” she whispers. Her body relaxes the closer we get.

“You do, huh?” I grin and press my body against hers. She nods, her gaze never leaving mine. “Tell me what you like about it.” I raise her chin so she can’t look away from me.
