“Olivia, oh my God! Congratulations!” Chloe pulls me into a hug while I sit in shock.

“Jillian, you’re sure?” I ask.

“Positive. Your numbers are very strong, so I feel confident in saying things are going well.” I sit in stunned silence. “Olivia, are you okay?”

“I’m going to be a mom,” I whisper and then smile when the reality of it hits me. “Ethan and I are going to have a baby.”

“Aw, Liv,” Chloe says. “I’m so happy for the two of you.”

“As am I,” Jillian says. “I need to run, but can I give you a hug before I go?”

“Yes, of course,” I say, standing to hug her. “Thank you, Jillian.”

“You’re welcome. Call me on Monday, and I’ll set you up for your first prenatal appointment.”

“Oh, wait. I’ve been drinking wine. It hasn’t been every day or anything, but could I have been causing harm to the baby?”

“We metabolize alcohol differently than humans so it’s not as much of a worry, but we still recommend refraining from consumption for the healthiest pregnancy possible. Just stop now, and you’ll be fine.”

“Okay, done. Thank you, Jillian.”

“Of course. I’ll see you at the ceremony tonight. Bye ladies,” Jillian says with a wave, leaving Chloe and me alone.

“Wow, so your night just got way more exciting,” Chloe says with a giggle. “You need to tell Ethan. You’ve got to get him back here.”

“I think I’m still in shock. But, yes, yes! I need to tell Ethan.”

“It’s going to be great. I know he’s going to be thrilled.” Chloe suddenly gasps again.

“What now?” I say with a laugh.

“You guys are going to have beautiful babies!” She squeals while I just laugh.

“Ethan said he’s going to be busy most of the day. What if I can’t tell him before tonight?”

“I’ll text Nick to see what they’re doing. I’ll tell him you have something urgent to discuss with him and he has to come home right away, but not to worry, you’re okay.”

“Okay, good plan.” I take a deep breath, putting my hand on my stomach.

Chloe gets busy with her thumbs and has a response within thirty seconds. “Okay, he’s on his way. That’s my cue to get out of here. I’ll see you at the pack house at three o’clock.” She pullsme into another hug. “Congratulations, sweetie. I’m so happy for you.”

“Thanks, Chloe. I’ll see you soon.”

I’m sitting at the kitchen island, tapping my nails on the countertop when Ethan comes in from the garage. Nick told him everything is okay, but of course he looks worried, nonetheless.

“Hey, baby.” I kiss her on the cheek, and look her over. “What’s going on? Are you okay?”

“Everything is fine. It’s good. It’s kind of great actually, or at least I hope you’ll think so,” she says as her voice shakes.

“I’m sure I’ll think so too.” I chuckle, still having no idea what’s going on. She stands and stares at me a bit, and appears to be thinking. “Olivia, you’re kind of freaking me out here. What’s up?” I ask, frowning at her strange behavior.

“Well, you know how I’ve been really tired lately?”

“Yeah?”

“I talked to Jillian about it when she came to take the blood sample today.”
