“I don’t blame the rest of you, Jillian. You and Max took such good care of me, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

“Is that why you’re so tired?” Chloe asks.

“I don’t know. Could the toxic substance have something to do with my fatigue, Jillian?”

“Possibly. How tired have you been?”

“Extremely.”

“Hmm. Well, let’s get another sample and I’ll go to the lab to run this test right away.” Jillian takes the blood sample she needs and packs up. “Will you be home for a while?”

“We’re heading over to the pack house for hair and makeup at three o’clock.”

“Okay. I should be back before then. I’ll see you soon.”

“Thanks, Jillian.”

“I can’t believe the balls on that man,” Chloe says, shaking her head. “Was he trying…was he trying to kill you?”

“Maybe.”

“I’m so sorry, Liv. It’s bad enough that basically nothing is happening to him after what he already did to you at his house. Ethan must be livid.”

“He is, and when they went to pick up Ian for questioning this morning, he wasn’t home. No one knows his whereabouts.”

“That’s scary, Liv. What about tonight? I think we’ve only seen a small glimpse of what he’s capable of doing.”

“Ethan says nothing is going to stop him from making me his Luna tonight. He said all his best men will be there.”

“Well, I don’t doubt that Ethan will do everything possible to ensure your safety.”

“You’re right, and this is supposed to be a happy day,” I say holding up my wine glass.

“Absolutely,” Chloe says, clinking her glass to mine. “Cheers to the soon to be Luna of the Pinewood Pack.”

Chloe and I are still sipping wine and eating finger sandwiches an hour later when Jillian returns with the results. “Hey! That was fast,” I say, letting her in.

“Yes, and I have good news for you.”

“Great! So is my blood clear now?”

“It is, but that’s not all. I think I found the reason for your fatigue.”

“Really? Well, what is it?”

“Is it okay to share it with you now or would you like some privacy?”

I wave my hand and shrug. “Oh, no worries. Whatever it is, you can say it in front of Chloe.”

“Okay. Olivia, you’re pregnant. You’re going to have a baby,” she says with a big smile while Chloe gasps loudly.

My mouth drops open and my eyes bulge. “Pregnant? How is that possible?” I pause and gasp. I haven’t taken my birth control since my transition, and there’s been a lot of sex since then. Of course, it’s possible. “My birth control got a little messed up during my transition. I haven’t taken them since, but that was less than a week ago. How could it show this early?”

“Remember, everything progresses much quicker with our pregnancies. A blood test can detect the hormones within days,” Jillian confirms.

“Is Ethan aware of the birth control discrepancy?” Chloe asks.

“He is. He said he would actually prefer if I didn’t go back on birth control, and he’d welcome a baby anytime,” I say with a smile.
