“Without question, she’ll lose her license to practice within our pack, or any other governed by our council. She’s been detained, and she’ll have to give her statement to the council. I just need to get the formal approval, but I plan to banish her from the pack.”

Olivia looks at me with wide eyes. “Banishment? Is that really necessary? She was manipulated, Ethan.”

I frown at her response. “Liv, I usually love the fact that you’re so compassionate and want to see the good in others, but baby, what she did could have fucking killed you. Do you understand that? She may have been manipulated, but think about it this way…under any amount of manipulation, do you think you would volunteer to do something that could potentially kill someone?”

She releases a deep sigh. “No, but maybe she didn’t realize what she was giving me could be so serious.”

“She said she knew how dangerous it was, Olivia. She knew. She willingly worked with Ian to try to take you from me. There are no fucking second chances for her. She’s out, and that’s final. Given her confession, I know the council won’t disagree.”

“Okay,” she says with a small nod. “You’re right. What about Ian?”

“The council sent men to get him this morning, but he wasn’t home. No one seems to know where the fuck he is, but when they find him, he’ll be detained and questioned by Lance and the council as well. I’d love nothing more than to do it myself, butI’m not going to let that asshole ruin our day. Making you my Luna is my only priority today.”

“He’ll be punished this time, though? Right?”

“Given the nurse’s confession, I should think so, unlike the slap on the wrist community service and conduct classes they gave him for fucking attacking you at his house. Such bullshit.”

“If no one knows where he is, do we need to be worried tonight?”

I pull her off of her chair and into my arms. “I don’t want you to worry about a thing. I have security on the house, and the pack house will be crawling with my best men tonight.” I kiss her on the forehead as she rests against my chest. “Nothing will stop me from making you my Luna tonight.”

Olivia

“White wine?” I ask, holding up the bottle. Chloe has joined me for lunch before going to the pack house for hair and makeup this afternoon. Ethan went to the pack house earlier to meet with his dad and greet our arriving guests.

“Yes, please. How have you been feeling? Still tired?” she asks as we sit down at the kitchen island to eat.

“Yeah. I mean, it’s not like I can’t function, but I just can’t shake this fatigue.”

“How long has it been going on now?”

“Since my transition, I suppose. I guess maybe my body is still recovering.”

Chloe nods, taking a sip of wine. “You’re probably right.”

There’s a knock at the door and I answer it to find Jillian. “Hi, Jillian. Come in. Are you here to collect the blood sample?”

“I am. Sorry for interrupting your lunch.”

“Oh, no worries. I haven’t told Chloe yet, so I’ll fill her in.”

“Told me what?”

“Last night your dad told Ethan my blood draw after my transition showed a toxic substance, and that someone saw a nurse acting suspiciously. They detained the nurse last night, and she confessed to switching the medication.”

Chloe’s mouth drops open. “What? Liv, why didn’t you say anything?”

“I was going to tell you, of course, but I haven’t told you the worst part yet.”

“What?”

“The nurse was dating Ian…well, let me rephrase that. She thought she was dating Ian, but he was actually manipulating her into doing this for him. She told Lance that he dumped her as soon as the job was done.”

“Oh, my God! He’s such a freaking psycho! And the nurse…she’s obviously out.”

“Ethan says that’s his plan.”

“We were devastated when we heard what happened, Olivia,” Jillian says. “The entire medical team feels absolutely horrible.”
