“You got it, babe. What do you want?”

“I think I want a cheeseburger.”

“This new appetite of yours is fucking awesome,” he says with a laugh. “That sounds great.”

I get comfortable on the couch and cover up with a blanket while Ethan orders our food. He comes over to join me after just a couple of minutes. “The food will be here soon. I talked to the chef personally and put a rush on it.”

“Thank you. You take such good care of me. I know you were there the whole time, except for when they made you leave to go for a run.”

“Of course, I was. I would never leave you.” He smiles at me, kissing my hand. “So, what kinds of things have you noticed that are different, other than the appetite in the kitchen and the bedroom?” he asks with a wink.

I respond with a giggle. “Well, I can hear every little freaking thing.”

“Yeah, you’ll learn to turn that on and off.”

“I feel like my vision is better too. I never needed glasses or contacts before, but it’s like my eyesight just went to high definition.”

“Yep, that’s normal too.”

“It’s crazy how I felt so weak, and suddenly went to feeling so good. I suppose it’s like Max says, my body is now just so much more efficient at healing itself.”

“Are you happy you did this?” he asks, taking both of my hands.

“I’m so happy, Ethan. The best change of all is that I now feel the same bond you’ve felt all along. My love for you is even stronger than it already was before.”

“You’re right. That is the best change.” He kisses me gently on the lips.

“So, when do you think will I be able to shift?”

“It’s hard to say exactly. It could be a few months, but it can take a lot longer for some people. Remember, your body also won’t shift if you’re pregnant.”

“Pregnant.” I smile. “I can have your babies now.” I squeeze his hand with excitement.

“Yes, you can, and one day, you will.” He kisses me again. “I can only imagine the excitement when my parents find out they’ll be grandparents one day. Speaking of my parents, they might stop over later today. Mom says if you’re feeling better, she’d love to bring us dinner.”

Hmm. Maybe I’ve finally proven to Caroline I’m worthy of being with her son. “I would love that.”

“Okay, I’ll tell her we’re in.”

The doorbell rings and Ethan accepts our food delivery. I can smell everything as soon as the door opens, and I can’t wait to eat. I make my way to the kitchen and sit at the island. The pancakes and scrambled eggs are fluffy, and the bacon is perfectly crisp. If it’s at all possible, my latte is even more heavenly than I remember.

“Ethan. Oh, my God. This is so good. Is it possible my sense of taste is also enhanced?”

“It is,” he says with a laugh. “Is everything tasting especially good?”

“Absolutely, freaking divine. I feel so good. I think everyone should become a werewolf.”

Ethan laughs, shaking his head at my observation. “I’m so relieved you’re happy.”

“How could I not be happy? I’m starting my life with the man I love more than anything.”

“You don’t resent me?”

“Why would I possibly resent you? I love you.”

His eyes are glassy as he searches mine. “Because this almost killed you. Ialmost killed you.”

“Ethan, no.” I reach for his hand. “What happened had nothing to do with you. I would never resent you. I wanted this just as much as you. I feel nothing but love for you.”
