“Remember, she’s one of us now and will have the benefit of experiencing all the enhanced abilities we have, including the body’s ability to heal itself quickly,” Max reminds us.

“Yeah, I guess it’s going to take a little time to get used to that,” Ethan says, kissing me on the cheek.

“While I feel confident your transition is complete, I need to do some blood work and a cheek swab for DNA confirmation. It’s important to know so you can feel comfortable with your plans to have a family when you decide to do so.”

“Okay. Thank you, Max.” Ethan and I smile at one another. I would love for those plans to come to fruition sooner rather than later.

“Why don’t we go home and give the couple some alone time,” Max says after performing the simple tests. “Oh, but by alone time, I mean relaxing alone time. I know as new mates you will be cravingcloseness,” Max says with a chuckle, “but at least hold off until tonight, please.”

“Got it,” Ethan confirms with a nod.

I go to Max to hug him. “Thank you so much. I’m so grateful you were here to see me through this.” Ethan shakes his hand and thanks him as well.

“It’s my pleasure,” Max says with a nod, leaving the room.

Chloe and Nick both hug me, and Ethan and I thank them for coming. “We’ll see you guys later,” Chloe says as they make their way down the stairs.

I throw my arms around Ethan as soon as I hear the front door closing. I look up and kiss him, my lips begging him to take me.

He smiles into my kiss but then pulls away. “Your enhanced sex drive is kicking in, isn’t it?”

“You look and smell incredible.” I immediately go in for another kiss, which he cuts short again.

“Listen, you know I want you just as badly as you want me, but you heard Max. No sex until tonight. I know we bent the rules before your transition, but I won’t go against his advice this time and risk hurting you. Too much has happened, Olivia.” There’s a look I’m not used to seeing in his eyes. Fear and guilt. “I almost lost you.”

I look into his penetrating eyes, and take his face in my hands. “I’m still here.”

“And I will never take that for granted. I’m going to make sure you know how much you mean to me every day of our lives.” He pulls me into a tight hug, his scent surrounding me. “I just want to hold you tight like this, and protect you all the time.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Ethan. The worst is over. We can move forward now.”

“That’s all I’ve ever wanted.” He kisses me, soft and slow.

I release a deep sigh as we pull apart. I want him so much right now. I don’t know how I’m going to control myself for the next several hours. I can only imagine it’s just as difficult for him. “My only request is that we get out of this bedroom if we aren’t having sex.” I raise an eyebrow at him.

He responds with a laugh. “Let’s go downstairs and talk about the changes you’re noticing.” He leans down and swoops me up into his arms.

I laugh as he surprises me. “What are you doing?”

“I’m carrying you downstairs. I’m not risking you going down the stairs to end up losing your balance.”

“Okay,” I say, smiling at his sweet gesture. I love being in his arms.

He carries me downstairs and gently places me on the couch. “Do you need anything?”

“Actually, I’m starving. Would you mind if we order some food from the pack house?”

“Definitely. What would you like?”

“What time is it?”

“It’s still early, only about 9:00.”

“Ooh, breakfast. How about pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon? Oh, and a caramel latte.”

“Wow, there seems to be an increase in your appetite too.”

“Well, I haven’t eaten in two days, but I think you’re right. I’m starving. In fact, maybe you should go ahead and place our order for lunch.”
