I nod. “Yes, come in.”

Chloe comes in carrying a huge bouquet of pastel pink roses, followed by Nick. “Hey, Liv,” Chloe says.

“You guys, thank you. These are beautiful,” I say as Chloe hands the flowers to Ethan.

She leans down to give me a gentle hug. “You’re welcome.”

“Chloe, thank you for everything yesterday. You’re such a good friend.”

“It was nothing. I know you’d do the same for me. You’re looking much better today. How are you feeling?”

I stretch my arms and groan. “Sore, but definitely better.”

“We’re glad to hear it, Liv,” Nick says with a warm smile. “You don’t know what I’ve been dealing with at home.” He laughs, nodding his head toward Chloe.

Chloe playfully punches him in the arm. “Hey, you were worried too.”

“I’m just giving you shit.” Nick laughs, putting his arm around Chloe. “Seriously, Olivia, we’re so relieved you’re okay. You scared the living fuck out of us.”

I nod with a smile. “I love you both.”

“Are you feeling a little better, Olivia?” Max asks.

“Better every minute. I’d like to try to get out of this bed.”

“If you feel up to it, then we can give it a try.”

“Chloe, do you think you could help me to the bathroom?” It dawns on me it’s literally been two days, and I don’t even know how that’s possible.

“Yeah, sure. Let’s have the guys get you up first to see how steady you are on your feet.”

Ethan helps me swing my legs out of bed and scoot to the edge. He and Nick both support me under my arms as I stand up. We hold steady for a minute to be sure I will be able to handle it. It’s still painful, but this strange wave of strength comes over me.

“I’m okay, guys. Let me just take Chloe’s hand.” Chloe reaches out, and I make it to the bathroom with relative ease.

“The last two days were freaking scary,” Chloe says. “I thought I was going to lose my best friend,” she whispers with misty eyes. “Look at you now, though. You’re doing great.”

“I’m going to be okay.” Her emotion pulls at my heart as I hug her. “I love you, Chloe. Like sisters, right?”

Chloe nods and we smile at each other as we pull apart. “Like sisters.”

“Chloe,” I whisper. “I feel the mate bond now.”

“Oh, Liv, that’s great.”

“He smells ridiculously amazing. It’s making me?—”

“Horny?” Chloe asks bluntly with a laugh.

“Well, yeah,” I say, and we both laugh.

“Yep, that’s normal.”

I’m able to stand and walk back to the bedroom on my own, but when Ethan sees me walking unassisted, he rushes to my side. “Jesus, Liv. Be careful.”

“You’re so sweet, but I’m really okay. I’m a little achy, but I feel pretty good.”

“Are you sure? Don’t do too much too fast.”
