Ethan’s beautiful, steel blue eyes are the last thing I see as Chloe’s dad gives me the second injection. I slip into a deep sleep, not to see or hear anything else the rest of the day.

Olivia

The surrounding voices slowly pull me from my drug-induced haze. It takes me a good minute to focus on Ethan, Max, and Jillian talking in the corner of the bedroom. I’m still too weak to form actual words, but I’m able to utter a few sounds. Ethan looks around Max to see me groggy but awake.

“Hey, baby.” He comes to me and kisses my forehead. “How are you feeling?”

“Hey,” I manage to whisper. “Terrible,” I say with a weak smile.

“Hello, Olivia,” Max says, smiling warmly and coming next to the bed. “You’ll be glad to know everything has gone well since your last dose of medication. We’ll give it a little time for the medication to wear off, and then we’ll see how you’re doing.” I nod my head in agreement.

“You are one tough girl, Olivia,” Jillian says. “You are going to make an incredible Luna.”

“She is,” Ethan says with a wide smile.

“I’m on call this morning, so I need to get going. Max will be here to see you through the rest of your transition, which should be mostly complete by now.” Jillian pats me on the hand, and I grab her wrist before she walks away.

“Thank you,” I whisper and smile.

“You are so welcome, Olivia. I’ll see you both soon.”

I’m already starting to feel the effects of the sedative wearing off, and I want to try to sit up. I try to push myself up, but my muscles ache like I’ve been beaten and dragged through the streets.

“Whoa,” Ethan says. “Do you want to sit up?”

“Yes,” I say, my voice becoming a little stronger.

Ethan looks to Max for guidance. “Is it okay?”

“As soon as she’s feeling strong enough to get back to normal, we should let her.”

“Here, let me help you,” Ethan says, raising me up and putting a pillow behind my back.

“You’ll probably be pretty sore today, Olivia. Your body has been through a great ordeal. You should be feeling better by tomorrow,” Max informs me.

“Yeah, very sore,” I agree.

“I’m going downstairs to let you two have a little privacy. I think Chloe is on her way over. I’ll be back in a little bit, but just yell if you need anything.” Max smiles as he turns to leave the room.

Ethan and I lock eyes, and I immediately feel the difference. His sexy, masculine, herbal scent is stronger than I’ve ever noticed. I loved him before, but now I recognize him for who he is to me. He’s my mate.

“What’s going on in that beautiful head of yours?” he asks, noticing I’m deep in thought.

“I feel it.” I smile.

“What do you feel? Do you need me to get Max?” he asks with concern.

“No, I feel it.” I take his hands. “I feel the bond. You’re my mate, and I feel it. I already loved you, and I can’t really explain it, but it’s so obvious now. I feel our souls are emotionally and physically connected.”

“They are.” He smiles broadly. “It’s amazing, isn’t it?”

“It is.” I smile at him, touching his face, unable to break my gaze from his eyes. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” He leans in to kiss me, and I’m able to kiss him back fully this time. I groan as we pull apart, leaning my aching body back onto the pillow again.

There’s a knock on the door, and Chloe’s dad comes in again. “Are you up for a couple of visitors?” he asks.
