Corey and Caleb glanced at each other, identical expressions of surprise coming over their handsome faces.

“Yes,” said Corey, answering for his brother too. “We’d love a drink.”

“Maybe we’ll get you so drunk, you’ll have to spend the night with us,” said Caleb with a wink.

I chuckled and got to my feet.

Corey moved forward and helped me put on my jacket. The gesture was both gentlemanly and intimate. My heart raced in my chest, making me feel giddy for no reason.

I was hopelessly falling for them again. But I’ll keep my eyes open this time, I promised myself as Corey and Caleb led me out of the room.

Light poured through the open doorway of Amhurst Manor. My flailing fingers struggled with the car’s door handle to open it. The driver finally took pity on me, turning around in his seat to open the door for me.

That one drink at the bar turned out to be several shots of vodka and who knew how many beers and chicken wings.

I stumbled out, followed by my two staggering partners-in-crime who used me to support themselves.

“Why did we have to come home?” Corey asked in a slurred voice. “Noah’s going to ruin my buzz.”

“Your dad’s waiting for us,” I reminded him.

The tilting landscape told me I was as drunk as him. Strangely, the thought made me giggle.

“They should’ve come with us,” said Caleb, leaning on me heavily. “They both need to loosen up once in a while.”

“Let’s not corrupt a good man,” I said, trying to walk while their heavy weights dragged me down.

“Noah’s a corrupt asshat,” said Corey.

A nasal snort escaped me. “I was talking about your dad.”

Corey and Caleb laughed loudly. And in turn, it made me burst out in peals of laughter too.

Shit, I’m drunk, I realized as we tottered toward the entryway.

“Why are the lights so fucking bright?” Caleb muttered, moving ahead with rapidly blinking eyes.

“Cal,” Corey moaned, leaving my side to join Caleb.

They both made their way into the vast entrance hall and crashed into a luxurious couch.

My body swayed and soon, the world was tilting quicker than I could believe.

“Hey, there,” said a familiar voice. Strong arms went around me, supporting me so I could get steady on my feet. “Are you okay?”

I nodded against Brian’s broad, warm chest. “All okay. I just drank a little too much tonight.” Looking up at him, I smiled. The bright lights seemed to make a halo around his head. “It feels good to lose control.”

Brian’s chest shook with laughter. “I’m glad you decided to take my advice, kiddo,” he said, caressing the top of my head. “You’ve suffered on your own for far too long. It’s time you dropped your burden and let others take care of you.”

A sigh of pure content escaped me. I basked in his praise with a stupid, proud grin on my face.

“Hubert!” Brian called in a loud voice. “Hubert? Where are you, man?”

“Coming, Sir,” a thin, frail voice shouted in reply from somewhere further inside the house. “These old legs refuse to move any faster.”

An elderly valet came into the room. His tanned leathery skin and wisps of white hair seemed familiar. He was probably one of the resident servants here.

“Take the boys upstairs,” said Brian. “They’re all drunk as skunks. A shower, some loose clothes, and cups of expressos should bring them back to us. After that, we’ll eat dinner together.”
