I stared at him. “What?!”

“You’re marrying Luke tomorrow,” he said with a cold sneer. “And you’ll also sign away all your shares to him.”

“I’d rather be shot in the head.”

“What about Noah?” Luke asked, drawing my attention to him. “Would you like it if I shothimin the head?”

My eyes widened.

“See?” Luke said with a chuckle. “That’s the reason I waited until I could capture them both. She’s the type who’d sacrifice herself for the sake of everyone. She’d rather die than obey us.”

“Yes, I see that,” said Mr. Beckett with an amused grin.

“Capturing one of the Amhurst bastards was the only way to make her cooperate with us,” said Luke.

“You’re getting good at conducting business, Son. I’m impressed.”

“Is this what you’re teaching him?” I hissed. “This isn’t howwedo business, Mr. Beckett. We’re not the mafia. We follow the law and work within its boundaries. The moment you cross it, you’re committing crimes, not doing business. Even if it’s not today, you and your son will end up in jail one day.”

“That’s our business, bitch,” Mr. Beckett spat.

“I can’t believe you’d stoop so low,” I said, looking at Luke. “There was a time I considered you my friend. Was I just a big fool to trust you?”

Something shifted behind his gray eyes.

“We’ll be friends for the rest of our lives,” said Luke. “We’ll be married after all.”

“Have you gone crazy?” I asked. “There’s no need for you to go along with your dad’s insane plan. You can stop right now and let us go.”

“It’s the only way Beckett Industries will rise above its competition,” said Luke. “I can’t let this chance get out of my hand.”

“This is your life, Luke,” I tried reasoning with him. “Don’t throw it all away. Nothing’s worth it.”

“You’ll make it worth all this,” said Luke with a grim look in his eyes. “You’ll belong to me. Amhurst Co. will belong to me.”

I scoffed. “Have you heard of a thing called divorce?” Despite the ropes binding me to the chair, I straightened my spine. “You can force me into signing shit by keeping Noah captive tonight. What happens afterward? His family won’t rest until they find him.”

Mr. Beckett rose to his feet. Rage darkened his gaze. Grabbing my hair, he pulled my head back. “I’ll make sure you’re a compliant wife to my son, bitch.”

“You don’t know me, Mr. Beckett,” I said in a cold tone. “You’re not the first men to torment me.”

“Let her go, Dad,” said Luke. “We need her looking uninjured. She needs to look like she’s at the courthouse of her own will.”

Mr. Beckett let go and moved away.

“She’s not going anywhere. She’ll do as we tell her,” said Luke. “Let’s go upstairs and catch some rest.”

Mr. Beckett threw me a dirty glare before letting his son walk him out of the cell. They closed the door behind them but there was really no need.

I wasn’t going anywhere without Noah.

If this was the end of my life, I was going to make sure they sent Noah to a hospital before signing away anything. As long as I was alive, I’d protect him.

Irene’s face rose before me. What was going to happen to her now? Would I ever be allowed to see her again?

My thoughts went to Brian next. How could fate be so cruel to us? I’d just come to know he was my dad. We were finally being a real family. Luke and his father would never let me get close to him.

The thought of losing my father all over again sent spasms of pain shooting through me.
