Rising on my toes, I pressed a kiss to his lips and smiled.

“Come here,” he growled low in his throat. Pulling me against him, he captured my lips in a heated kiss, his tongue sweeping every corner of my mouth.

I was light-headed when we finally separated.

Noah and I spent another hour, making rounds of the vast construction ground.

“It’s late,” he said after a while.

“But everyone’s still working.”

“They’re all on a night shift,” said Noah. “They’ll be here until the morning crew comes in to take over their shift.”

I gave a nod. I already knew this but the bright lights and energy of the place made me forget all about it.

“Come on, let’s get some dinner,” said Noah. “There’s something I want to give you.”

“Really?”

He nodded. “Come on. Let’s get out of here first.”

I followed him until we reached the far side of the construction site. We took off our protective gear and placed them inside a large steel vat.

A makeshift parking lot was set up close by. Noah located his car and unlocked it.

“Where are we going?” I asked, climbing into the seat next to him.

“The Chinese restaurant?” he said, glancing at me. “I could do with a bowl of hot soup.”

“Mmm...sounds good. I’d like some steamed dumplings too.”

He smiled, driving the car away from the site.

Reaching Raydon Street, we made our way to our favorite Chinese restaurant.

The young waitress there recognized us as soon as we stepped inside. She smiled at us and led us to a table.

“We have jiaozi dumplings on our special menu today,” said the waitress. “They’re stuffed with snow pea leaves, marinated chestnuts, garlic chives, and tofu.”

“I’ve never tried anything like that,” I said. “Sounds kind of healthy too. I’ll have two plates, please!”

“You should have some meat too, Milla.”

“Meat’s not that healthy, you know.”

He raised his eyebrows at me. “Everything in moderation is healthy.” Glancing up at our server, he added, “Bring us bowls of your chicken soup and a plate of braised pork belly too.”

My mouth salivated at the mention of braised pork belly.

Noah looked at me like he knew what I was thinking.

I looked away, pretending to peruse the menu.

When he didn’t seem keen on making any conversation, I looked up at him and saw him smiling.

“What?” I asked.

“You’re still so cute.”
