“When are you coming home? I miss you.”

A tear rolls out from the corner of his eyes, and his throat bobs as he swallows down the emotions overwhelming him.

“I’ll be home soon, okay. I’m coming home to you soon.”

“Okay.”

“I love you, darlin’.”

“I love you, too, Daddy. Bye.”

She disappears from the call, and Emma returns. “Be sure you keep your promise to her. To me. I kinda love you, too.”

Another tear escapes his eye, and then another. “Yeah, I kinda love you, too. Fuck, I love you so much. I’m coming home. You’ll see, I’ll be there before you know it.”

“You better, or I’ll never talk to you again.”

“I hear ya. I’ll call you later, okay?”

“Okay.”

She hangs up, and I take back my phone. I put it away and notice he hasn’t moved to wipe away his tears.

Using my sleeve, I lean over and wipe them for him.

“Thanks.”

“No problem. Is there anything else I can do for you?”

“Yeah, can you go get my dad? He’ll need to let my mom know I’m good, that Mason’s good.”

Ricky’s image returns, and my mind spins with what I should tell him.

Leo told me not to mention it to Mason in the van if he woke, that he needed his strength to fight to stay alive.

Myles might be awake, but he’s still hanging around death's door.

“Aspen?”

“Sorry, yeah, I’ll go see if I can find him.”

“He shouldn’t be far. Both his sons nearly died by all accounts.” He snorts. “Actually, I’m surprised he isn’t here already?”

No, no, no. I can’t do this. I don’t know if it’s fate or just a coincidence. Cas returns, and the relief makes me dizzy.

“Glad to see you’ve still got your eyes open,” Cas tells him, and I remain quiet.

“Really fuckin’ thought I was a goner this time,” Myles admits.

“I think you were a few times. Mason is still out for the count, but he’s doing well.”

Silence falls over the room, and I avoid Myles’s gaze as he looks between me and Cas.

“Not being funny, but as much as I’m happy to see you, shouldn’t my dad be standing where you are? What aren’t you telling me?”

“Myles, maybe you should get some rest, and we’ll talk later.”

“You know that’s the last thing I’m gonna do if you don’t start talking. Where the fuck is my dad?”
