“Nah.” Lavinia picked the book up and put it on the side table. “I was letting you have a preview. Now it's dinnertime.” She held up the plates while Killian cut the pizza.

“You know you don’t have to eat with us,” I said. The vampires didn’t need to eat like us. Blood was enough for them, but sometimes they did, whenever the witches were having a celebration or party.

Lavinia handed me a plate with a huge pizza slice. “Pizza is too good to pass up.”

Killian nodded. “True.”

I glanced from them to Raika. We had made up, our friends were here with us, and we were having a pizza party. Right now, everything was okay. And that was all that mattered.

I took a big bite of my pizza and enjoyed the moment.

I was sure it wouldn’t last.

Afraid of calling the fire again, Shane pulled another bed in the room and placed it beside mine. This way, we were close, but not touching.

Which made me sad. I was growing used to sleeping with our bodies tangled together.

I had asked him to go back home and stay with the kids, but he insisted the kids understood. And Rue was with them.

When we woke up, Shane went to find us breakfast. I took a quick shower and put on a pair of leather leggings and a crop top, along with my wedge black boots. Then, I took another dose of the elixir and Meredith examined me.

“The elixir seems to be working,” she said as she took my temperature. “Still high for a wolf, but nothing to worry about.”

When Shane returned, he pushed a cart brimming with food: bacon, eggs, toast, pancakes, juice, milk, and coffee.

“How many people are eating with us?” I joked.

Shane served a plate with a little of everything and handed it to me. “You’re starting your training today. You need energy.”

“Right, but this is too much.”

He sat on the bed, holding a plate. “Just eat, smartass.”

We ate in silence. I had to admit … bacon, eggs, toast, and pancakes were such a common thing, but whoever was the cook in this castle was exceptional. He, or she, made it all taste like a piece of heaven. When I felt better, I would have to express my thanks.

“What time is your training?” Shane asked after swallowing a big bite of his pancake, drenched in syrup.

“I just took the elixir, and I’m supposed to drink it every four to six hours, depending on how I feel. So maybe in four hours?”

Shane nodded. “I would like to be there.”

“I would love that, but don’t you have other things to do? Like check on the kids? And maybe on everyone else? I don’t want you to pause everything because of me.”

“You’re more important.”

I smiled. “I love hearing that, but you know how the pack wolves can be. Until a few weeks ago, some of them weren’t so keen on having you as an alpha, then me as your mate … I don’t want to have another problem with them. Not so soon, at least.”

Shane shoved a forkful of pancakes in his mouth, his brows dipped low. After chewing and swallowing, he finally said, “Fine. I’ll do alpha stuff while you train.”

“As soon as it’s over, I’ll text you. You can bring me another delicious thing to eat then.”

He groaned. “Are you going to start a fan club for the chef?”

“I just might.” I chuckled. “Is he handsome?”
