And I was hers.

Raika bit my lower lip and pure desire took hold of me. With a growl, I moved. Raining kisses down her neck, I rounded the footboard, laid her down on the mattress, and crawled over her. I pressed my body against hers, her breasts squished against my chest, her hips lined with mine, her legs open and around my waist to let me get as close as I could … and I growled again.

My hard-on became painful against my pants.

I brought my lips back to Raika’s and claimed her mouth, while I slipped my hand down her breast, across her belly, and inside her pants. I touched her center and Raika hissed, her back arching.

“Want more?” I asked against her lips.

“Always,” she breathed. “With you, anything, always.”

I growled and rubbed at her clit.

Raika’s body heated up. Startled, I pulled back and stared at her orange skin. “Raika?”

“Shit,” she muttered. Her hands shook. “I’m losing it. Quick. The vial.” She pointed to a box on the side table. I jumped off the bed, reached for the box, opened it, and grabbed a vial from inside. I uncorked it for her. Raika snatched it from me and drank it all in one gulp.

She lay back, her breathing hard, her chest moving rapidly, her eyes dazed. The vial rolled from her hand and crashed to the floor.

Panic seized my chest. “Raika?”

“I’m fine,” she whispered. “The elixir helped. It’s coming back down.”

I ran a hand through my hair. Damn, I shouldn’t have done that. I shouldn’t have kissed her or touched her. I knew what could happened, and yet, lost in my own desire for her, I had forgotten.

“I’m sorry.”

She propped herself up on her elbows. “Why? Because of this? It isn’t your fault.” She reached for me, but I only took a step away. “Shane, don’t you dare withdraw from me now. We might not be able to get hot and heavy, but please, don’t leave me alone.”

Shit. That was what she read in my action. “I’m not leaving you alone. I’ll never leave you. I’m just trying to protect you.”

She sat up, crossed her legs, and patted the bed. I sat down. “I love it that you want to protect me. I do. It’s … sexy.” She entwined our fingers together. “As long as you stay with me.”

I brought her hand up and kissed the top. “Always.”

“Aw, you two made up.” Lavinia’s voice rang from the infirmary’s door. “That’s sweet.”

She walked in, pushing a fancy metal cart with plates, cups, beverages, and … pizza? Killian followed her in and closed the door behind them.

“Are we having a party?” I asked, confused.

Lavinia shrugged. “If you want, I can come up with an idea for a party right here, right now.”

Raika chuckled. “But did you bring my book?”

“Booksss,” she said, emphasizing the s. She gestured to the bottom shelf of the metal cart, where there was a pile of leather-bound books.

“You’re a saint.” Raika made grabby hands.

Lavinia snorted. “So far from that.” She picked up the first book and handed it to Raika.

“What’s that about?” I asked.

Raika showed me the cover. The Real History of Dragons and Dragon Shifters.

“Apparently, Raika asked for books on dragons, and Lavinia wanted us to bring all of them,” Killian said, in a mad-teasing tone. “By the way, we didn’t. There are too many books on the subject in the library.”

“Good, then it means I have a lot to learn.” Raika cracked open the book.
