Page 48 of It Ends With A Yes

When he turned to the team, everyone’s eyes were on him and Clary. Everyone snapped their attention back to their computer screens before Seth could react. “Has the system been breached?”

“Not yet, but with so many attacks …” The employee adjusted his cap. “If we send a virus back, we can take down this entire network of bots.”

“But if it spreads,” someone else said, “Movement will have to be liable for whatever damage it causes.”

“No.” It was too much of a risk. The hacker might not be using his own server, and he couldn’t risk having a hacker adopting the virus as a weapon.

The IT team came up with several plausible solutions, and they went back and forth before deciding on one.

“Will it take long?” Clary asked when Seth turned back to her.

He put a hand on the back of her chair. “I can take you home first.” It wasn’t as if he could do anything. He understood coding and what the IT team was telling him, but he wasn’t anywhere good enough to help the team take down the hacker.

She shook her head. “I just thought if it will take a while, I’ll order some food.”

He laughed softly.

“I’m sure everyone would like to have something to eat.”

“I can go out and buy it,” Tony said, but Clary shook her head and waved her phone.

“I’ll just order it.”

“Are you sure you don’t want me to take you home first?”

She shook her head again. “Should I order coffee too?” she asked, loud enough for everyone to hear.

While the team glanced at each other, no one seemed courageous enough to answer Clary.

“I’m just going to order peppermint mocha for everyone if you guys don’t answer me,” Clary said.

Seth turned back to the team. He’d never had to introduce anyone before, and it felt awkward.

But he didn’t like how uncertain everyone was about her. “Clary Fiore,” he announced, then paused and considered if he should add ‘my girlfriend.’

“Mr. Anderson’s fiancée,” Tony added.

Both Seth and Clary looked over at Tony.

His assistant scratched his head. “She’s wearing a rather noticeable diamond ring.”

Buying that ring was the best decision Seth ever made in his life. “If you guys want something, let her know.” He grabbed a chair. “Or she’ll really just get the peppermint mocha.”

“I want Americano,” Tony said.

The rest of the orders poured in so quickly Clary had to tell them to slow down.

Seth rolled his chair until he was directly across from Clary.

She fluttered her lids. “You can order one too.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to head home first?” he asked again. Surely this wasn’t Clary’s ideal way of spending Christmas.

“I’d much rather see your handsome face than Elton’s—or Zane’s.”

Seth grinned. “Let me know if you get bored.”

She nodded and waved him off. “Go back to work and leave me alone.”
