“Huh?” Dan glances between us, as Ty glares at me.

I motion for Ty to pick up his beer. “Oh, my bad. So, a cheers is when two or more people clink their glasses together in celebratory fun – you do remember what fun means? I think we went over this before – and then we-”

“Fuck you, Mitchell,” Ty growls, picking up his beer and nodding towards Dan, then taking a drink.

I chuckle and clink my glass against Dan’s as he just holds it in front of him, looking between us.

“Um,” Dan shakes off whatever seems to be confusing him, and slaps on a smile. “Luca was telling me about the fight you guys have coming up. And the possibility of… LFA?” He looks to me and I nod. “That sounds awesome.”

Ty visibly perks up a bit, now that the conversation has turned to something he can better relate to. But still, he’s a man of few words.

“Yeah, looking forward to it.”

“Jeez, Ty.” I shake my head at him. “Can you let someone else get a word in? We get it, you’re excited, but my god.”

Ty’s jaw ticks, and I laugh.

“Take your own advice, asshole,” he says.

I scoff, waving him off. “Nah, you like my mouth too much.”

“My fist does.”

“Among other things.”

“Fuck off.”

“You first.”

We hold eye contact for a moment longer, him glaring and me smiling, until we both turn back to Dan.

“So, yeah,” I say, nodding at Dan, “we’re both looking forward to getting back in the cage for an event. With some fights and the LFA application coming up, training is getting serious. Ty helped me a lot with grappling when I needed it, so we’re shifting our focus to striking at the moment.” I point to the healing cut over my eye. “Although, he does have a good one.”

Dan looks between us with wide eyes, and just nods slowly. “Right…”

There’s a cheer from the bar, as apparently someone scored in the hockey game on TV I’m not paying any attention to. Ty turns to look at it, so I lean towards Dan.

“See?” I whisper. “Feelings.”

Dan presses his lips together and nods seriously. “Yeah. Sure, I can… see that…”

“Hey you,” a female voice purrs behind me and I freeze.

Oh, fuck right off.

I turn around to see Mary-Megan smiling at me, drink in her hand.

“Hey.” I force a smile, glancing at Ty who flicks his eyes to her, then back to the TV. “You made it after all,” I say with an unintentional flat tone.

“Yeah, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.” She glances around the table to Ty and Dan, then back to me. “Where’s your girlfriend?”

Ty’s eyes fly to me, and I suppress a wince. “Oh,” I shake my head, “I don’t have one.”

Mary-Megan’s eyes light up. “Oh? I thought you were involved with someone?”

Ty’s eyebrows raise, ever so slightly.

Shit.
