“What do you want?” I ask with a sigh.

He huffs out a laugh, and I take in the cut above his eye. It’s bruising and swelling, along with some bruising starting on his cheekbone and down his jaw.

His eyes roam over my face as well. “Nice face.”

“You too.” I adjust my bag on my shoulder and glance towards the gym door.

When I bring my eyes back to him, his smirk softens.

We stand there in silence for a moment, quietly looking at each other, and I am all too aware that I don’t want to move from this spot.

Until Luca opens his mouth again.

“Did you know that a Tiger’s punch can kill you?”

“What?”

Luca nods seriously, eyebrows raised. “Mm-hm. A swipe of a Tiger’s front paw is enough to kill a person.”

He looks so serious about this as his eyes flick between mine, that I fight off a smile.

And when his eyes then drop to my lips, I’m fighting off more than just a smile.

But we’re not fighting anymore, are we?

I step towards him, and his eyes widen slightly. As I press him up against his Jeep, he exhales.

“Well,” I say, my lips close to his, “good thing you survived.”

He nods slightly. “Good thing.”

Our lips meet and our bags drop to the ground. He grunts slightly as I push him harder into his Jeep, but his hands find my hips and pull me into him. The pain in my lip is biting as my tongue slides against his, but I don’t stop.

I know anyone could see us out here. And I’m surprised when that thought does nothing but urge me on. I raise a hand to the side of his face, and he winces slightly as my thumb lands on his bruising jaw. But he also doesn’t stop, and instead lifts his hands up my back, taking even more.

Eventually we break apart, and I bring my thumb up to wipe my lip, which is now bleeding again.

Luca looks down at it and nods slightly. “That’s hot.”

I scoff, picking up my bag. “Let’s go.”

He follows me into the gym, and as soon as we enter, I want to back right out.

Every set of eyes lands on us, and I immediately feel the scrutiny as everyone sees the evidence of our fight last night.

Max is standing on the mats with Adão and Elijah, and his expression darkens as he takes in our appearance.

Elijah glances between us with worry, and I hear Seb let out a low whistle from his spot at the heavy bags.

“Seriously?” Max asks, his voice low and full of anger.

I swallow and adjust my bag on my shoulder, wondering how we’re going to explain this.

“Uh, yeah,” Luca murmurs. “So, about this-”

“I don’t want to hear any excuses.” Max gestures between us. “This doesn’t fly here. I’ve been more than understanding of this rivalry between you two, but this is too fucking much. You are teammates now. Fucking act like it, or you can leave.”

I nod, and Luca does the same. “Yeah, we know,” he says.
