Which is why I also entered the grappling tournament, so I can apply some outside pressure to get my head back in the game. So this means I need to start preparing for it as well.

With him.

I’m buzzed through the front door and make my way to the elevator. But on the ride up to the third floor, I start to question myself.

Why am I here? I don’t need a TV to watch the fights. This is going to be a disaster, I don’t need to put myself and everyone through this…

But I continue my way down the hall and find apartment number 323. There’s laughter on the other side of the door, and I stay out here in the hallway for a moment longer, listening to everyone enjoy themselves.

This is going to be fucking torture.

I’m just here to watch the fights, and then I’m leaving.

Unless there’s a reason I won’t want to leave…

Nope. I’m not here for this, I’ll just get it on my phone and watch at home like I should have, this is stupid.

But the second I turn away from the door to leave, I come face to face with Seb.

“Hey,” he smiles, “you made it!”

“Uh, hey.” I glance past him towards the elevator.

“Nice to know someone else is late, so I’m not the last one.” Seb chuckles as he moves past me and knocks on the door.

“Oh, I-” I start, but the door opens.

“There you are!” Rosa stares at us both in disbelief. “Come on, you’re so late.” She steps aside for us to enter, which Seb does immediately.

I hang back for a second, trying to think of an excuse to leave.

Rosa smiles softly at me and tilts her head in a motion for me to come in. “Glad you could make it, Ty.”

I give her a tight nod and resign to my fate, entering Luca’s apartment.

And it’s definitely Luca’s apartment.

It’s colorful and chaotic, with plants everywhere, string lights, flowers on the table, different colored curtains on every window…

And the asshole himself leaning against the kitchen counter smirking at me.

“Glad you made it!” Adão smiles at me as he exits the kitchen and heads into the living room, where a large TV is flashing the UFC logo to indicate the beginning of the fights.

Alright, that’s better than my phone…

“Hey,” I say awkwardly, as everyone else waves and shouts a greeting from their seats in the living room.

Luca pushes himself off the counter and opens his fridge. He then silently holds out a beer for me.

I take it, and he shoots his annoying cocky smile at me.

“There’s nothing here to prevent me from wiping that off your fucking face,” I say in a low voice, gripping my beer bottle tightly.

“With your hands, or…?” His eyes drop briefly to my lips, before he takes a swig of his beer and turns to head into the living room.

I take a deep breath and follow him, pushing down the subtle excitement at that thought.

Luca plops into a chair, and Noah smiles at me, scooting down the couch so I can sit.
