And Luca follows.

“How was stargazing?”

I set my bag on the bench and turn to face him again. “What the fuck are you talking about, I was not stargazing.”

Luca nods seriously and leans against the lockers across from me. “So, what were you doing?”

“Nothing,” I mutter as I pull my locker door open and take off my hoodie.

“Sounds fun.”

A breath of frustration automatically escapes me, and I look back at him. And I feel a small flutter deep within me as I catch his eyes trailing down my back.

As he brings them back up to meet mine, I quickly look away from him.

I wait, expecting some snarky comment, but he doesn’t say anything. As I continue to get ready, he does the same at his locker behind me.

We’re silent as we strip off our sweats and I fight every urge I have to turn around and face him again. And why? I have no fucking idea. It’s Luca fucking Mitchell, I want nothing to do with him. And yet, there’s something within me telling me that’s not true.

I hear his locker door close, just as I do the same and finally turn around. He’s running a hand through his hair, and my eyes immediately drop to the skin showing over his ribs, where the cut-out sleeves of his tank top drops low. I can’t quite make out what the tattoos are there, but one that I can see looks like a moon.

But I quickly look away and grab my hand wraps. “Let’s go.”

“Yup,” Luca nods, doing the same, “let’s.”

As we enter the training space, Luca hops in front of me with a huge smile. He looks down at the wraps in my hands. “So, since we have wraps… does that mean we’re kickboxing today?”

I bite the inside of my cheek. I didn’t want to say this before now, because I didn’t want this going to his head. But… he is a highly skilled kickboxer, and I do want to work on a few things with him that the bag can’t help with. “Yes.”

His smile somehow gets even bigger. “And what are we working on?”

My jaw tightens. “Kicking speed.”

Luca nods thoughtfully. “Alright.”

I let out a breath and shake my head. “That’s it?”

“What?” he asks.

“No snarky comeback?” I tilt my head slightly, staring back at him and waiting for it.

He furrows his brow and presses his lips together, shaking his head. “No. You helped me, and I can help you.” He then cocks an eyebrow. “If you’ll let me.”

“I’m here aren’t I,” I say, surprisingly without the bite I had intended.

Luca smirks slightly. “I thought you’d be here anyway?”

I exhale to prevent the anger from taking over and push past him towards the boxing ring.

“I know what you were working on yesterday,” Luca’s voice echoes in the empty gym as he follows me. “Low kicks are one of my specialities, which I’m sure you know.”

Another ripple of anger makes its way through me. Yeah, my legs remember.

“But you want heavier kicks, don’t you?”

I stop and turn to glare at him.

He stops as well, a few feet from me. “Which is why you want to work on speed. So you can land better, and increase overall power.”
