I nod with a sigh. “I figured.”

“He’s dealing with a lot right now…” Bill says thoughtfully. “He was going to the doctor, right?”

“Yeah.” I nod. “Um… I’ll try him at home. Maybe he went there after.”

“Let us know if we can do anything. We’ll be here,” Bill says.

Tim nods seriously. “Anything.”

“Thanks.”

I head back out to my Jeep, the worry now taking over.

If it was good news, he would have either gone to work or the gym… right?

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

When I get to his place, I immediately run up the stairs to his apartment and bang on the door.

“Ty! You in there?” I yell.

Nothing.

Fuck!

I bang again. “Ty!”

The door across the hall opens, and an older lady pokes her head out.

“Hey,” I say to her. “Have you seen the guy who lives here, at any time today?”

She shakes her head and retreats back into her apartment, looking scared.

And yeah, fair… a guy with a black eye is pounding on her neighbor’s door yelling for him.

“Sorry,” I mutter, and leave the poor woman alone.

I head back outside and walk to his parking spot to find it empty.

What the fuck?

I run a hand down my face, looking around as the sky darkens.

Where the fuck is he… What happened?

My head tilts back as I blow out a breath, and my eyes land on the moon.

A full moon, with the soft twinkling stars emerging around it.

A quiet space to go when you need to get away from it all…

I hop back in my Jeep, with a new sense of hope.

I know where he is.

FORTY-SIX

I hear the sound of tires on the gravel behind me, but I keep my eyes up and on the stars.
