“Was.” I point out, then tilt my head with a smile. “Aw. Tyler. You expressed a feeling. Congratulations.”

He glares at me. “Hatred may still be real.”

“Oh please,” I scoff. “Tell me that when you’re balls deep in my-”

“Ok.” Max holds his hands up. “I don’t need any more details.” He rubs a hand over his face. “Jesus, when you first got here, I was worried about you training together because I thought you’d kill each other. Now… I guess, considering,” he gestures between us, “this, and training…”

“Are you asking if I’ll still punch him in the face?” I ask. “Because I will.”

Ty shoots me a look. “Yeah, no problems going all out on this fucker.”

Max lets out a breath of amusement. “Ok… but training only. No brawling.”

“Fine,” I mutter, slumping in my seat.

Max chuckles and crosses his arms over his chest again. “Well, I’m happy for you guys.” He gives us one more little shake of his head with a smirk, his disbelief lingering. “And I’m glad to hear training won’t be affected, as we’ve heard who you’re fighting next weekend. And Ty, you’ve got a nasty striker.”

Ty perks up and leans forward. I keep my eyes on him a moment longer to take in his excitement.

“He’s out of Nashville,” Max says. “He has a decent record, but he’s fucking ruthless and has had a few strikes against him. In my opinion, he’s an impulsive idiot. But that could work in your favor.”

Ty nods seriously, and he looks like he’s ready to get in the cage with him right now.

“His name is Josh Hens,” Max continues. “Look him up and study him. He’ll keep you guessing and is going to try to keep you on your feet, so you’ll need to be quick. Everything you’ve been working on with Luca, ramp it up.”

“Ok.” Ty nods again.

“Del is here today, so go do some footwork drills with him. And I want to see you on the bag and sparring with Luca this week. We’re also going to do some sparring in the cage.”

“Sick.” I turn to Ty with a smile. “I can be nasty too, you know.”

Before Ty can respond, Max turns his attention to me.

“And Luca.”

I lock my dirty jokes away for later and turn to Max. “Yes boss?”

“You have Brad Eastin. He’s a fairly well-rounded fighter. Equally skilled in all areas, but not really strong in one. Which could go either way for you. He could be an easy fight, or he could really challenge you. So, look for his weakness. Since you’re a striker, he will likely want you on the ground. Keep rolling with Ty, and drill passes and sweeps.”

“Gotcha.” I give him a nod and feel the excitement stirring.

“Ok,” Max pushes himself up from the edge of his desk. “That’s it. Ty, go see Del. Luca, grab Elijah and roll with him today.”

As we leave Max’s office, Ty immediately zeroes in on Del at the boxing ring. I can feel the anticipation in him, as he transitions right into work mode.

“Aw. Cute.” I poke him and he jerks away from me.

There’s that glare I’ve grown to like so much.

I laugh. “Calm down. I’m excited too, can’t you tell?” I smile widely at him, and he just rolls his eyes and starts to walk away.

“Hey,” I call out and he stops, turning around to face me. I take a moment to look into his dark eyes. “It will be nice to have you in my corner for this one.”

The corner of his lips tilt up, and I smile back at him. “Also, did you know that tigers can run at a speed of up to 65 kilometers per hour?”

He furrows his brow. “What?”

I nod. “Yeah. So… tigers are fast.”
