“Yeah, let me get right on that,” Sebastian drawled with a sigh as he closed her bedroom window behind him before he made his way over to her bed and-

Promptly ignored her as he pulled his iPad out of his sweatshirt pocket and lost himself in whatever book he was reading at the moment. For several minutes, Mikey stood there glaring at the boy who she’d been counting on to get her out of this until it became obvious that he had no intentions of saving her.

“I see,” Mikey murmured as she dropped the baseball bat that she’d grabbed to make this easier for him on the floor so that she could fold her arms over her chest as she continued glaring at the boy who got her into this mess in the first place.

“I’m glad that you do,” Sebastian murmured absently as he toed off his shoes and got more comfortable.

“You never mentioned a dress code,” Mikey pointed out even as she struggled to figure a way out of this.

She could turn down Latin Scribe High School’s scholarship, go to public school where she wouldn’t have to worry about being forced to wear a really ugly skirt, but since that would mean begging Coach Dilmore for a spot on the team after making him cry, Mikey really didn’t think that was a good idea. Well, that and she couldn’t leave Sebastian to do this on his own.

He needed her.

“What’s the plan?” Sebastian asked as he swiped to the next page.

“Besides pout?” Mikey asked, sighing heavily as she resigned herself to doing something that was guaranteed to leave her scarred for life.

“Besides that,” he murmured absently as Mikey reluctantly dropped her arms and made her way across the room and-

Tore a pained grunt from the boy who should be outraged on her behalf when she crawled over him, making sure to knee him in his side as she made her way to the other side of the bed, where she sighed heavily, dropped back against her pillow, and did her best to look pathetic as she rolled onto her side.

“I was kind of hoping that pouting would be enough,” Mikey admitted with a shuddering sigh, noting the way that Sebastian’s lips twitched as he swiped to the next page.

“And now?” Sebastian asked as his gaze flickered to her before returning to reading whatever book that currently had his attention that would probably bore her to tears.

“I’m planning on glaring at you because it fills me with joy,” Mikey explained, following that up with a firm nod.

“That sounds like a solid plan,” Sebastian said while Mikey lay there, unable to help but notice just how much he’d changed since the first time she saw him.

He was still too damn serious for her peace of mind, Mikey thought as she watched him, but he had begun to relax since he found out that Latin Scribe High School was willing to give him a chance. He smiled more, seemed more relaxed and…

God, she loved his smile, Mikey thought, taking in his short, black hair and intense blue eyes and wondered if he had any idea just how incredibly handsome he was. Then again, knowing Sebastian, he probably didn’t care. It was one of the many things that she liked about him, Mikey thought as she reached over and pulled his arm out of the way while she shifted closer so that she could curl up against him as she laid her head on his chest and released a shuddering sigh.

“Comfortable?” Sebastian murmured absently as he wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer.

“I suppose this will do,” Mikey said as she reached over and began toying with the strings of the sweatshirt that he was wearing, even as she debated stealing it.

“Are you nervous about tomorrow?” Sebastian asked, somehow managing to swipe to the next page with his thumb.

“No,” Mikey mumbled as she continued toying with the strings. “Are you?”

“Would you believe me if I said no?” Sebastian asked, only to chuckle when she tilted her head back so that she could glare at him.

“Would you believe me if I said that I wasn’t going to smother you with a pillow while you slept?” Mikey countered.

“Probably not, since you’re evil,” Sebastian said, only to follow that with a slow exhale before admitting, “I’m terrified that I’m going to do something to screw this up.”

At that, Mikey couldn’t help but roll her eyes before closing them and settling in for the night. “Like I’d let that happen,” she mumbled, wondering why he had so little faith in her.

“And how exactly do you plan on stopping that from happening?” Sebastian asked, sounding distracted and she didn’t need to ask to know why.

Before he’d met her, and she felt that it was important to point that out, Sebastian had a tendency of getting in trouble. He got bored easily, made stupid decisions, and he’d eventually managed to get himself kicked out of school along with his brother, forcing his parents to homeschool them while they desperately searched for a way to get the boys back in school. It wasn’t until Radcliffe Academy offered Sebastian a scholarship instead of his brother that he'd realized just how badly he’d screwed up.

He turned down the scholarship so that Jonathan could take it, assured his parents that he wanted to continue homeschooling even though that was the last thing that he wanted to do, and became the incredibly serious, grumpy teenage boy who she adored. Last year, they’d applied to every high school that they could find, praying that one of them was willing to overlook his past. Only one school had been willing to give him a chance, Latin Scribe High School, and he was terrified of doing something to ruin this. She wouldn’t let that happen, but even knowing that, he was still nervous and she couldn’t really blame him.

“With violence,” Mikey promised him with a solemn nod.

“I’m already terrified,” Sebastian drawled, sounding amused for some reason.
