I was just trying to figure out what to do and where to go since the race was over when the man who led me to my seat earlier walks up to the end of my row and gestures for me to join him.

“Bodhi is waiting for you on pit row, if you would just follow me.”

We make our way down and I cannot quell the rush of excitement that washes over me when I step foot on the track. This has got to be the coolest thing I’ve ever had the privilege of experiencing, and I’m so grateful for Bodhi’s invitation today.

The smells of burned rubber and gasoline fill the air, and I smile, loving it.

As we approach the crew, I can see Bodhi standing next to his car talking to his crew chief. A curl of warmth licks at my insides upon seeing him in his race suit. I can’t believe I’m turned on by this, but damn if he doesn’t look good.

As if he senses my presence, his head snaps to the side and he zeros in on me. The face splitting grin stretches across his sweaty face, and I match it without hesitation.

“So, what did you think?” He asks once I’m standing in front of him.

“That was amazing,” I say swiftly, without hesitation.

“Oh yeah? Amazing?” He laughs.

“Yes, I haven’t had this much fun in a long time, and you were great out there. See what a little focus can do?” I say, playfully flaring my eyes at him.

“Yeah, yeah,” he says, rolling his eyes. “I still didn’t finish first, though.” I can tell that this irritates him and he’s trying not to let it show.

“So,” I shrug, and he arches a brow at me. “Did you do your best?”

“Yes,” he answers matter-of-factly.

“Then that’s what matters. Take it for the win that it is,” I say.

“You’re just full of good advice, aren’t you?” He smirks.

“I do what I can,” I say.

“Uh-huh, fine. I’ll consider it a win. But you do know what they say, right?”

“What?”

“If you’re not first, you’re—”

“If you finish that sentence, I may have to strangle you,” I warn, pointing my finger at his chest.

“Aww, Princess, how did you know that’s how I like it?” His heated stare taunts me and my mouth goes dry. I’ve forgotten how to speak as images of his hand circling my throat gently but still possessively infiltrate my mind. Heat floods my body and I swear he knows exactly what he’s doing to me.

“Umm, so this is your car?” I gesture toward the royal blue car beside us.

“This is it,” he says, eyes never leaving me.

I approach slowly and bend at the waist, peaking inside without touching.

“It’s pretty close to the ones we drove,” I note.

“Yeah, these just go a hell of a lot faster.”

“I noticed.” Even I can hear the smile in my voice. I would love to get behind the wheel of one of these cars for a day. It would be so exhilarating.

“So, you wanna meet Lacey?” Bodhi says from behind me, and I spin around to face him, unable to hide my excitement.

“Yes!”

“All right, let’s go down here,” he laughs and guides me down pit row with his hand on the small of my back.
