Bodhi said that he would take care of the room, but I wasn’t sure if that meant he already had or not. So, I approach the front desk slowly, prepared to have to foot my own bill.

“Hi, welcome to Ludo Mentis. How might I accommodate you this evening?” The Man behind the counter looks to be in his mid-forties, clean cut and wearing a dark green uniform.

“Umm, yes, I believe my friend already took care of my room?” I posed the question, uncertain how much I should say given Bodhi’s status.

“Of course, and your name?” The concierge asks.

“Keaton King,” I answer, adjusting the strap of my bag over my shoulder.

“Ah, yes, right here, room 713. Mr. Kane took care of everything earlier this evening,” he says kindly, reaching below his desk and coming up with a key card. “This is for you,” he says, sliding over the plastic card. “Is there anything else I might help you with this evening? Luggage?”

“No thank you, I’ve got it all right here.” I smile, patting the bag at my side.

“All right then, Ms. King, you have a wonderful evening and please call down if you need anything.”

With that, I head toward the elevator and make my way upstairs in search of my room.

As I wander the halls, I take in the plush carpet lining the floors and how it perfectly offsets the cream-colored walls and mahogany doors. This is definitely the most upscale hotel I’ve ever been in.

I count down the room numbers until I finally come to mine, room 713. I slide in the key card and wait for the door to beep as it unlocks.

I make my way inside, ensuring that I lock the door behind me. And then turn to take in the expansive room beyond. It’s more than I would have ever expected. Bodhi went above and beyond, and I totally did not need a room like this. However beautiful it may be.

There’s a small kitchen, a living area, master bedroom with an ensuite bath and a mini fridge. My inner child screams at me to jump on the plush bed before me, but I quell the urge and settle for falling backward on to it, arms stretched out to either side of my head. The bed is big enough that I can stretch out my limbs to all four corners and still not touch them.

I’m just about to hop up and continue my exploring when a knock sounds from the front door. I’m not sure who to expect but assume that maybe housekeeping has made their way up to check on me.

A shuffle over and peer through the peephole to see Bodhi standing on the other side, and my heart leaps.

I take a deep breath and exhale loudly, running my fingers through my hair and making sure I don’t look like I’ve just been rolling around on the bed like a twelve-year-old, and then slowly pull the door open to greet him.

“You made it,” he says, smiling widely.

“I did, just now,” I smile back shyly, very aware of how close we are to the bed beyond the living area behind me.

I’m suddenly nervous and don’t know how to act, but one thing’s for sure, I’m going to give this a genuine effort and see what Bodhi is made of.

Chapter 25

“Can I come in?” I ask cautiously. I know I’ve made great strides where Keaton is concerned, and I don’t want to screw things up now and scare her or give her the wrong impression.

“Oh, yeah, sure,” she says, opening the door wider and stepping back to let me through.

A bag sits unopened at the foot of the bed, and other than that, the room looks untouched.

“Wow, you really did just get here,” I chuckle.

“Yeah,” she says from somewhere behind me. I turn to look at her, hands tucked awkwardly in her pockets, shifting from foot to foot.

“How was the drive?” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest, staying at a distance, and hoping she can read my body language.

I am not here to try anything, though as soon as I saw that bed, the thought did cross my mind.

“Long, but not nearly as bad as I thought. I figured traffic would be crazy with the race tomorrow,” she says.

“Eh, with it being a city circuit, we definitely get a lot of in-state attendees, but it’s nowhere near what the numbers for something like NASCAR or Formula-one would be,” I shrug.

“Shit, I bet it turns into an absolute circus during those races,” she says, shaking her head.
