Rising from the bed, Jordan went into the bathroom and disposed of the used condom. What was happening between them?

It felt like she was keeping secrets from them and he didn’t like that. And now they were going to keep their relationship from everyone in town.

But they did have a dangerous job, and if the ring leader was someone here in town, that person could use this to their advantage.

He walked back into the bedroom with another butt plug in his hand. He wanted to continue preparing Camila so that sooner than later, they could both take her at the same time without hurting her.

“All right, I agree with you. We should keep our relationship quiet for now. But once this case is over, I’m not going to be willing to hide it any longer. Not from your brother or my family or even your boss. Do you understand me?”

“Yes,” Camila said her large sapphire eyes gazing at him. “What is that?”

“Another butt plug, darling. Soon we’re both going to take you at the same time.”

CHAPTER13

Camila had gone to San Antonio, and the office felt empty without her. Ely wondered what they would do if she didn’t stay with them after this case. It would be hard to go forward without her, and it had been less than a week.

His feelings were getting involved. When she walked into the room, it was like the earth moved and he was drawn to her. His cock hardened and his breathing accelerated. And when the woman touched him, his body went into overdrive.

He liked her quiet ways of standing back and assessing the situation. The way her logical mind worked and how she didn’t hold anything back in the bedroom. The woman enjoyed sex and was eager to learn their ways.

He’d fight and give his life to protect her and keep anyone from harming her, and that worried him the most.

The woman was everything they needed. She was strong and willing to try new things and she had a funny, cute personality that he loved. His heart could not get involved. At least not until they found who was behind this case, and they weren’t making much progress.

This case was emotionally draining. This morning, they went back to Marta’s family’s home, and the scene there was heart-wrenching. The doctor gave the mother an antidepressant and ordered her to bed. The father was barely hanging on. The family was angry that there was nothing new to tell them. Their daughter was missing and they had no idea who had taken her or where.

This case was as cold as a North Texas blue norther. In some ways, he wanted to pick up another case, just to give his brain a rest from trying to outwit the person who had done this.

Leaning back in his chair, he gazed out the window and wondered who and why would someone do this.

Robin came running into his office.

“Ely, we’ve got a call that the two of you might need to go see about. This woman is acting crazy looking for her family. She says they used to live in a house that is occupied by someone else.”

That was weird. “What’s her name?”

“Kaitlyn Meander,” the woman said. “The neighbor called in on her because she’s acting strange.”

Why was that name familiar? Something about it resonated with him.

Sitting up, he opened his laptop and put in her name. Stunned, he stared at the screen. Missing child. The woman had been taken almost twenty years ago from this area. Could this be real? Was this even possible?

“She’s making threats against Jim White,” the woman said.

Ely’s head snapped up. “What?”

The rich rancher that liked to spread his money around town.

“The neighbor said she’s trying to find her family and as soon as she locates them, she’s going to go see Jim White. She’s threatening to harm the rancher.”

What if she was indeed the missing child? She would be grown now. But why would she return here to harm Jim White unless he had something to do with her abduction?

Quickly, he printed off the missing child’s photo.

“Jordan,” he cried jumping up. “Let’s go. Thanks, Robin. What’s the address?”

She gave him the location and he hurried out his office door. Stepping into Jordan’s office, he was unable to contain his excitement. “Come on, we’ve got a lead.”
