My only hope was I wouldn’t do anything else to embarrass myself more than I already had today. It was a wonder I hadn’t fallen over and started drooling when that door to his camper opened.

I cringed when I thought back to how it all went down.

Of course, the cringe factor lasted a matter of seconds, when I recalled just how incredible Griffin looked standing inside his camper with next to nothing covering his body.

The man’s physique was impeccable. Every single inch of it.

Of all the photos I’d managed to take since I broke my camera out of my backpack yesterday afternoon, none of them compared to the picture I had in my head of Griffin looking at me with such a sweet look on his face only seconds after he’d called me sugar.

I couldn’t begin to process it all, knowing it would spell trouble, so I didn’t. I did my best to ignore it, and I hoped I’d be able to keep the vision of a half-naked Griffin out of my head tonight.

On that thought, I took one last look at myself in the mirror. I didn’t have any makeup on, but I did have a hairdryer. Fortunately, I was able to make my hair look decent, and for some strange reason, I found myself hoping that it would be enough to impress Griffin.

I hated the constant battle I was feeling between my heart and my head. My mind was doing everything it could to protect me, while my heart refused to ignore the way it beat a little faster when I thought about the way Griffin had been treating me.

Not wanting to have him waiting around for me, I grabbed my things and walked out of the locker room. Then I grabbed a seat at the same spot I’d been sitting in for the last couple of days, while I waited for Griffin to make his way to the lodge.

I hadn’t been sitting there for more than five or six minutes when Griffin walked in, searched the space, and ultimately settled his eyes on me. As soon as he found me, his lips broke out into a grin. He made his way over to me, and I stood to greet him.

“Hey,” I said.

“Hi,” he returned.

I tried not to react to having the scent of him, so clean and masculine, invading my nostrils. It was doing little to help my mind stay focused on keeping things strictly platonic.

“Hungry?” I asked.

He nodded. “You?”

“Starved.”

And I was.

I’d have been lying if I said I was indulging myself from the moment I wound up being stranded here at the resort. I didn’t know how long I’d be here, and there was a very limited and finite supply of money, so I’d been doing what I could to stretch every last dollar I had.

If I wasn’t being smart with the very little money I did have left, I certainly wouldn’t have been inviting anyone to dinner, even if it was only in the lodge at a ski resort. Truthfully, ski resort meals tended to be overpriced, so I wasn’t going to be finding any bargains here. My hope was Griffin would say he wanted pizza, and I’d be able to pay for a single item that we’d be sharing instead of us getting individual meals.

The next thing I knew, Griffin and I were making our way over to order food. Within seconds, I realized just how horrible this was going to be.

“Go ahead and order,” Griffin urged. “I’m still trying to decide.”

Well, there went the pizza idea. I stepped forward, glanced up at the menu on the wall behind the counter, and quickly searched for something that would be filling, because at the prices I saw in front of me next to each item, there wasn’t a chance I was going to be able to buy much for myself after this dinner with Griffin.

I was originally going to select the burger, since I thought the fat would help to keep me fuller for longer, but it was a whole three dollars more than its chicken counterpart, so I said, “I’ll have the grilled chicken sandwich.”

The girl behind the counter replied, “That comes with fries. Will that be okay?”

I nodded. “Sure.”

“Anything to drink?” she pressed.

My eyes drifted to the fountain drink dispenser behind her. “I’ll have a small root beer.”

“Anything else?”

I stepped slightly to the side and glanced up at Griffin. He smiled at me, stepped forward, and said, “I’ll have the All-American burger.”

“Fries okay with that?”
