“Way. It’s your fault, Isabel.”

“How is it my fault?”

“Because you spiked the eggnog.”

“Yeah, because you were the one that was going on and on about how we needed to have fun and let loose, and you wanted to get drunk because you hadn’t gotten drunk in so long. Remember, that’s exactly what you said. And you wanted us to have the time of our lives. And—”

“I know what I said, but I didn’t expect the alcohol to go to my head like that.”

“Oh, so you were so drunk that you didn’t even realize it was him?”

“No, I knew it was him.”

“So then?”

“So by the time I realized it was him, I was so turned on and horny I couldn’t say no. And well, you know, he’s good-looking.”

“He is good-looking,” she says, with a dreamy expression on her face. “Those blue eyes of his.”

“I know, they are just mesmerizing. Don’t tell him I said that, though.” I wrinkle my nose because I hate the fact that I find him so handsome. If I thought he looked like a donkey’s ass, then I wouldn’t be in any of the trouble I was currently in.

“Of course I would never tell him you said that. So when you say you guys hooked up, are we talking first base or…?”

“Really, Isabel? Are we in eighth grade?”

“What? I’m just asking.”

“Hey there, dancing queen.” Isabel’s voice carries loudly down the street as I approach her. She’s standing outside the café with a cup of coffee in her hand, and I feel like I’m doing the walk of shame as I make my way over to her. “Still in your miniskirt, I see.”

“I didn’t exactly have time to change.” I run my fingers through my long, dark, messy hair and try to tame it before we enter the coffee shop. “I’m so embarrassed. How am I going to look Colton in the face the next time I see him?”

“Well, you don’t have to look him in the face.” She pauses and then starts giggling. I stare at her for a few seconds, wondering if she’s still drunk from last night. It was my idea to dance the night away, but she certainly joined in.

“You okay?” I ask as she leans forward, her blue eyes wide with mirth.

“You don’t have to look him in the face if you don’t want to,” she says again. “You can sit on it instead.”

“Isabel.” I hit her in the shoulder and glance around quickly to ensure no one heard her. “Really?”

“Too soon?” She giggles again. “And was that something Colton said last night?”

“Was what something Colton said last night?” I repeat stupidly, and then it hits me what she’s referring to. “No, he’s not a five-minute man if that’s what you’re asking.” I grin and blush at the same time as I think about the previous evening. There are many reasons why Colton Hart gets on my nerves, but his lovemaking is not one of them.

“I take it that he left you satisfied, then.” She holds open the door to the café and we walk inside and grab a booth. “Your dry spell is finally done.”

“I just wish it hadn’t been with him.” I groan and bury my face in my hands. What was I thinking? He will never let me live this down. He tasted me. He was inside of me. He heard me screaming his name. “I can’t believe I had a one-night stand. And how can I have been so desperate as to sleep with Colton?”

“I still don’t understand. At what point did you realize it was him?” she asks as she opens her menu. I look down at my menu as well, though I’m almost sure I know what I want. I’m a creature of habit. I almost always have French toast with bacon or a cheese and ham omelet with breakfast potatoes.

“You want to share something sweet with me?” Isabel grins. “And then we get our own savory dish?”

“I am hungry.”

“You had a real workout last night.” She leans back and tightens her hair band around her wispy, blonde hair. She rubs her eyes, and I can see the traces of eyeliner under her eyes. Looks like she hasn’t been awake for that long, either. Isabel is normally a woman who takes off her makeup religiously each night.

“What do we look like?” I pick up a spoon and stare at my reflection. I look rougher than I thought. My no-smear mascara is smeared, and my eyeliner is smudged. My hair is frizzy at the front, and my cheeks are bright red.
