“He doesn’t really think I’m going to do his laundry, does he?” I mumble to myself as I stand there. I’m not quite sure what to do. I grab my phone so I can call Isabel because I am literally flabbergasted. She picks up the phone almost immediately.

“Hey there. What happened to you last night?” she asks, and I let out a loud groan. “Oh boy. I’m sitting down. Tell me what happened.”

“You’ll not believe where I am right now,” I say, sitting on the edge of Colton’s bed.

“Please do not tell me you’re in jail. We do not have bail money.”

“No, I’m not in jail. Why would you think I’m in jail? Come on, Isabel.”

“I don’t know, but you were dancing up a storm, and I saw you dancing with that guy. I didn’t know if you were going to get arrested for public…” She pauses and giggles.

“Public what?” I growl.

“You know.”

“What are you saying?”

“Public intoxication,” she says innocently.

“Is that what you were really thinking?”

“No, that’s not what I was thinking. Public sex. You were all over that guy.”

“I was not all over that guy. He was all over me and—”

“Girl, you were both all over each other. I saw you guys bumping and grinding on the dance floor, and it looked like it was getting really intimate. And I was just thinking to myself,Wow, I did not think that my best friend, Ella, could do all that with a stranger.”

“Turns out he wasn’t a stranger.” I moan, not knowing how I’m ever gonna live this down.

“What do you mean he wasn’t a stranger? Oh my gosh. Was he someone famous?” She’s excited now. “Like Hugh Jackman?”

“What?!” I screech into the phone. “What are you talking about? Why would Hugh Jackman be on the dance floor making out with me?”

“I don’t know. Who was it, then?”

“No one good.”

“What do you mean no one good? You looked like you were enjoying it.”

“Okay. I was enjoying it, but that was until I knew who it was.”

“Oh my gosh. Who was it? Tell me, tell me!” she squeals.

“It was Colton.”

“Colton?” she says.

“Yes!” I interrupt her. “Colton Hart, my brother’s best friend. The guy that fired me when I was eighteen years old after working for him for one hour. That jackass.”

“Oh boy. So what happened? You guys were making out and then you saw it was him and you slapped him and went and got a hotel room because you were too ashamed or something?”

“No, that’s not what happened.”

“Then tell me, what happened? You ran away and you ended up in—”

“I went back home with him.”

There is silence on the other side of the phone. “You what? No way.”
