“I mean, he texts me in the morning saying, ‘Good morning. I hope you have a great day.’ And then he texts me in the evening saying, ‘Sweet dreams.’ But that’s it,” I say, sitting back on the soft cushion. “I wish that he would call me or something.”

“He’s most probably feeling upset that you didn’t tell him that you loved him back,” Sarah says, shaking her head as if she can’t believe I didn’t confess my undying love to him then and there. “I mean, he confessed his feelings for you and you kind of just dissed him.”

“I didn’t diss him,” I say, trying to defend myself. I’ve spent the last couple of days questioning myself as to why I didn’t tell him how I felt about him. I knew it was because I was nervous that everything wasn’t real, but I hadn’t been able to express that to anyone. “I was just overwhelmed. I didn’t know what to think or feel.”

“But you love him,” Isabel says simply. “It’s obvious.”

“What do you mean it’s obvious?” I say, blushing slightly.

“Girl, the fact that you went back to his place that first night even though you supposedly couldn’t stand him.”

I stare at her for a couple of seconds. “What are you saying?”

“I’m saying you’ve always had a thing for Colton Hart. Don’t think I don’t remember the night before the first time you were going to work for him.”

“What are you talking about?” I say.

“You were going on and on about how hot he was. Remember?” I blush slightly. I do remember. Of course I remember. I’ve always had a thing for Colton. I’ve always thought of him as my brother’s hot, hot friend, and I’ve been having fantasies about him for years. But after he fired me, I’ve tried to dismiss it because it is just so embarrassing.

“You love him,” Isabel says. “And I know that you’re slightly taken aback by how quickly everything has gone, but it’s okay. He loves you too.”

“I mean, how do I know it’s real?” I ask. “He doesn’t know me that well, and he hasn’t even taken me on a date yet.”

“I know. That is kind of weird,” Sarah says. “I mean, not to be rude or anything, but you guys have fucked so much and you haven’t even been on one date. It’s like you guys are just friends with benefits but not even really friends.”

“Thanks, Sarah. That makes me feel great.”

“I’m just saying. It’s not like I would turn it down. It is just a little bit weird.”

“I mean, he did ask me to dinner that one time, but...” I sigh. My phone starts ringing and I see that Sam is calling. “Hey, hold on. It’s Sam. Hey, what’s going on?” I ask him.

“Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I know about you and Colton.”

“What?” I ask, freezing.

“I know.” Sam chuckles on the phone.

“What do you mean you know?”

“I know that you guys are dating,” he says.

“Wait, how do you know?”

“Because Colton told me.” He sighs. “I don’t know why you didn’t tell me in the first place.”

“I mean, I just don’t...” I don’t know what to say. I can hear my words floundering.

“Colton helped Mom and Dad,” he says, “and I feel slightly guilty about that because I didn’t even know there was an issue.”

“What are you talking about? What do you mean he helped Mom and Dad?”

“He’s in Florida right now.”

“He is?” I say. “I didn’t know he was in Florida. I thought he was somewhere else.”

“Dad lost money.” Sam sounds annoyed. “He didn’t want to tell us because he felt guilty, but he was investing his retirement money in some company that’s gone bankrupt, and they’re in a really bad way.”

“Oh my gosh. I didn’t know that.”
