“I mean, are you an idiot?”

“Something’s obviously happened. He really needs to see me.”

“At midnight?” Colton says, shaking his head. “Really?”

“He’s stressed out. I told you his wife left him and he’s a single dad.”

“Oh my gosh, Ella. Sometimes, I think you wouldn’t have any sense if it wasn’t for a stupid sense.”

“Excuse me, what does that mean?”

“Well, you sure don’t have common sense,” he says.

I jump out of the bed and just stare down at him. “You can go home, or you can stay or...”

“Oh, there’s no way I’m letting you go by yourself. I’m going to call a car and we’ll drive over there.”

“No, you don’t have to do that, you—”

“Yes, I do,” he says, glaring at me. “Put on some clothes and let’s go.”

“You don’t have to come, Colton, I can...”

“I am your brother’s best friend. If anything happened to you, he would kill me.”

“Because I’m here with you right now.”

“Oh, so you’re going to be like, ‘Oh, hey, whatever happened to your sister was my fault because I just fucked her a couple of hours before that’?”

“Ella, don’t you get it?” He sighed. “Anyway, we’re not going to go into this right now. We can talk about it later.”

“Talk about what later?” I say as I pull on my top.

“Are you not going to put on a bra?”

“It’s fine. I’ll just put a sweater over it. He won’t be able to tell.”

He stares at me and shakes his head. “Okay, if you think so.”

“Anyways, he most probably just needs some advice about Frannie. She’s probably done something and he’s stressed out. Maybe she was crying about her mom and he just needs someone to tell him it’s going to be okay.”

“And you’re the person to tell him that?”

“Maybe. I don’t know.”

“Oh my gosh. Fine,” he says. “Come on, the car is waiting downstairs.”

“Already? It hasn’t even been...”

“You forget I’m a billionaire.” He grins. “If I want a car, it’s there right away.”

“Okay,” I say, glancing at him. “But how is that possible? It’s been two minutes.”

“My driver has been waiting for me all night,” he says. “Who do you think brought me here in the first place?”

I remember then that he’d been waiting outside my building when I arrived. “Your driver was sitting in a car waiting for you the entire time, so he knows you spent the night, so he thinks I’m...”
